    New basement brewery build

Hi all! Been inactive a while. My wife and I built a house and moved in this past May, and are expecting our first child in December so things have been hectic. I wanted to start this post as my personal journal for this basement brewery build. I’ll update it as work gets completed but I don’t...

    Cleaning SS Anvil Brew Bucket

I’ve been using my stainless anvil brew bucket for a while now. After every fermentation, I’ll fill it up with a warm oxyclean solution and let it sit for a bit and then scrub it. It’s to the point now where there is some brown residue from fermentation that I just can’t scrub off. Last time I...

VnH Pump Powered Tap Line Cleaner

Credit to my LHBS for putting this together. I used to clean my tap lines with co2 and then when they released this, I immediately bought the parts and have been using it ever since with good results. I'm not affiliated with the LHBS in any way but this has been encouraging me to clean my lines...

    Verify my Bru’n water setup!

Hey guys. Just received my ward labs report back. I’ve read through a lot of threads and watched videos and think I have a decent grasp on things but still wanted to see if you guys could verify. After inputting it in Bru’n water and entering my pale ale grain bill and water volumes, I got my...

Basic Brewing: Journey of recovery episode

This is definitely out of my "normal" post, but I feel like it's a podcast episode worth listening to. A long time friend of the basic brewing podcast shares his story about recovering from an alcohol addiction. Link to the podcast

    Fresh “premium” Guava

I’m planning a lineup of kettle sours and am struggling to find the frozen pink guava purée in my area. Might be a little easier once I can casually browse the grocery stores again but anyways. I bought 4 pounds of these fresh guavas from Walmart and I’m going to cut them up and freeze them and...

    Temp controller wiring question

I want to use the attached temp controller for my old mini fridge to use as a temp controller. What would be the best method to do so? Build a project box with the two outlets for heating and cooling and just plug it into that? I'm used to inkbird plug and plays but figured I want to utilize...

    Speidel 60L Spigot Tubing

I purchased a Speidel 60L from morebeer and went to transfer my Oktoberfest today. I used 1/2" ID tubing I had laying around and it seemed to fit pretty loose so I switched the transfer to my autosiphon because I saw a lot of air bubbles in the line. What size tubing are you guys using to...

    Mushrooms growing in yard

Looking for some insight! I bought my house in the fall of last year and didn't had this issue.. Now this summer, we have had mushrooms popping up in a small section of our front yard as the sun sets. Usually 5-10 at a time. I pick them right away and used over the counter spray stuff from...

    Brewing for competitions

We have a huge local competition every year called Son Of Brewzilla. I usually just enter what I have kegged/bottled at the time but wondering if I should change my approach as I want to enter for the sole purpose of winning this year. Just curious how other people approach this.
