    Big batch brewing

Hello everyone, I recently had a lot of my friends inquire about my brew, enough that if I am going to make them all happy, and save myself time, I will need to make a 15 gallon batch. As I want to save myself time, and do everything in one primary, what do you guys recommend using? Also, I...

    Yeast usage

This may or may not be in the wrong forum, but all the time we hear people trying to use bread yeast to make beer, but has anyone done the opposite and tried to make bread with beer yeast? Question came to me out of general curiosity

    large brewing questions

For you guys who brew on the larger end, say 20 or 55 gallons, I know this may be a stupid quesiton, but is there anyway to move your brew without a chugger pump? I live in an appartment, so loud chugger pumps like that are out, but at the same time, i'd love to do larger batches. Any...

    Stupid mead!

This week I took a trip to the beautiful Las Vegas Nevada, and while there, we visited the Hoover dam. Long story short we ended up down a back road tearing a rental car up through the dessert, we ended up on this dirt road, and it magically popped us out on the shores of lake mead. We were...

Helping fellow home brewers (dirt cheap bottle caps)

There is a brewing company called home brew ohio, I am in no way trying to promote their business or anything along those lines. But right now they have bottles caps, 60 for $2 and they're prime eligible, so if you need some, you can get them super cheap Colorblind brewing Flavor beats color...

    Oxyclean mistake

So this was my first time using oxyclean as a cleaner. I used the oxyclean free stuff, I used 3/4 of a cup to 5 gallons, I then let it sit for about 20 - 30 min, I then poured it out, forgot to rinse, but then I sanitized with star san, I then poured out my extra star san water and put my brew...

Kegs for sale, good or bad idea?

So on the magical place called "craigslist" there was a guy who is giving away outdated 15 gallon kegs, they look pretty rough, but I don't keg yet, so don't know if they would even be usuable... if it helps for these 3 outdated kegs, he wants $30 for all 3 of them, and he said he was willing to...

    Color blind brewing intro

Hey guys, my names Zach, and I am a college student trying to get my pre-med degree. I'm one of the few who actually spends more time studying than drinking, I'm like the missing link, lol. I brew many things, I've done hard ciders, I've brewed wine, and I've very light dipped my foot into beer...

trying to re invent the wheel

maybe i'm just going a little to far with this, but for bottling, what about using expansion rubber stoppers like the picture provided? or what about the classic idea of rubber stoppers like this? i believe that this could be a revolutionary idea, because you would no longer need a corker...

    Brew bucket idea

So I had this idea, I work next to a backery, and as a result of this, they go through several 5 gallon buckets of frosting daily, and they give them away for free. I was planning converting these used frosting buckets into brew buckets. Is this a good idea, or am I just wasing my time? I was...

    5l mini kegs

I have never done kegging before, but I feel like this would be way more convenient then having 100's of bottles laying around. My question is how effective these are for storing beer/cider? my other question is those little taps that you can buy for these that run off of CO2 cartriages, how...

    Cider kegging questions

I would like to store some sparkling hard cider in these mini kegs, but I have a few questions. How long will they stay at room temperature for? Do I need to buy a mini keggerator for these? Could I age my hard cider in these mini kegs? Thanks in advance for answering my questions...

    high proof wine

Alright, I was looking to make a high proof "wine" (sugar and water and whatever else I'm going to need) and pushing the ABV as high as possible, using a distillers yeast. Once I have the abv as high as I can go, then I will add something like a brandy extract, or something like that. Has anyone...

    Yeast problem

Ec 118 I was in a hurry at my LHBS and was looking for a cider yeast. Instead of looking at what I was actually grabbing, I was just grabbing from a box I was reading. I read a box that said the included yeast was good for wines and ciders. I later get home, and find I grabbed ec 118. I am...

    Better siphoning

I was playing around with an idea. Instead of using an auto siphon, would it be ok to use one of these. Would it be practical or would it be too complicated to sanitize? It would work perfect for home brewing wine, because it siphons a gallon a minute, and you can make it siphon both ways.

    High proof peach wine

I want to make a VERY high proof peach wine I want it way up there, as high as i can possibly get it. I was thinking about using distillers yeast and a crap ton of sugar and yeast nutrient. Any ideas on how to push the ABV% as high as humanly possibly besides distalation? On a side note, i...
