Thanks to the miracle of Dicyclomine... I am going to be brewing again!!! Whohoo!

I have not brewed since 2020. My wife was diagnosed as gluten intolerant... tried gluten free brewing...meh.. so i just gave it up. Long story-short, my wife continued to have some problems, gluten free diet definitely helped her, but still problems. Different doctor, who gave her Dicyclomine...

And Carl said... "it ain't got no gas!!".... other two fellas "see what I mean, it's the simplest things first"

For those who have seen Slingblade... you will know the scene. I needed Carl today, so I didn't look so stupid. I figured I had enough right kind of grains to make a Black IPA, that time of year. And I did. So I weigh it all out, and start crushing the grains... 'what the hell is happening...

excess c02... fermentation restart.... why is this happening all of a sudden?

To note I have been brewing for years... have no idea... at least 500 brews by now. Anyway... the last 5 or 6 brews, not the same beer, not the same yeast. A month after brewing, a good 3 weeks past fermentation - and what is this? ... a 1/4" head and plenty of airlock activity. I cannot...

Yes, this is another thread about selling beer... but on a tiny scale.

MODERATOR's NOTE and WARNING: I'm going to allow this thread as long as the discussion remains on topic, civil, informative, and merely hypothetical, and doesn't escalate into actually selling or promoting to sell beer, legally or illegally. Anyone grazing or crossing those boundaries will be...

How do you weigh your grains.

Finally maybe 7-8 brews ago I purchased a Barley Crusher and have been very happy with it. It is nice to buy grains ahead of time and crush/brew when you want. So last week for the first time I purchased bulk grains. Cheaper and now I can truly brew when I want. Problem. How to accurately...

    Belgian Inspired Ales

We have a great brewery locally called Taxman Brewery that does a unique spin on their brews. They are all made with Belgian yeast. And some of their beers are downright awesome. https://www.taxmanbrewing.com/ Right now I am enjoying their Belgian Blonde Ale. It's freaky good. I would love...

On this memorial day, I lament...

We live next to a park that was dedicated in 1922 with a large WW1 memorial, years later they also erected a large WW II memorial. Complete with life-size soldier statue, beautifully carved eagles etc. The WW1 memorial was finished in 1928. The soldier statue stood, untouched for 60 years. In...

If I didn't know better, I would swear this was lager yeast.

First time brewing a Kolsch, the only grain is Malz German Pilsner Malt. (Yeast is Safale 04) Take a look at the pics, one is a close up of the bottom that has a good 3" of very active, bubbling layer that is "erupting" little plumes of debris. The 2nd pic is the top...which only has bubbles...

Anyone use any hydraulic lifts/tables for brewing?

Something like this... But maybe not $240. After brewing a Kolsch yesterday, and once again paying for it for several days of pain... I just have to find ways to eliminate as much lifting as possible. (I have RA) Something like this I am thinking for perhaps the brew kettle, I can have...

Why did I wait so long to mill my own grains...

Lovin it. First time use for my new Barley Crusher. Set my gap at .28. Holy moly I hit the numbers absolutely perfect. Placing all of my readings into Beer Smith it measures my Mash eff. at 86.3%...never got that high. And my overall BH eff at 72.3% I was laughing at how well I hit the numbers.

First time with Barley Crusher and BIAB

... should have done it a long time ago, finally bought a Barley Crusher. So perusing through the forums... this seems like what I should do. 1) Condition the grain by spritzing with a little water and mixing it up abut 15 minutes before crushing. 2) Set the gap a little tighter than factory...

    The CRAZY cold weather...

So in the little brewhouse I have, we are adding heating this summer. All last summer I fermented in a small area with a window A/C that has done well. Last Saturday I brewed a brown ale and used the fridge as the chamber with a Johnson Controller. I didn't pay attention to the weather, and the...

    So.... how do you chill?

... the wort that is. I use an immersion chiller. I like the ease of cleanup, and not having to worry about thoroughly cleaning the lines of a counterflow etc. I use to do it like most, hooking it up to a faucet/spigot and wasting a ton of water. But during the summer it just took waaay too...

    YES!... success kegging.

Been a homebrewer for many years. Always bottled. Wanted to keg for several years, but at the time didn't have space for a kegerator etc. Or a place where the wife would be OK with it. I do now. First time kegged a holiday red ale... 6.8% abv. Have made this recipe several times. I force...

Strange fermentation rebirth for Safeale 04

After pitching I would say the active fermentation was normal for this yeast, active and finished pretty fast as the active signs died off in about 36 hours and settled out. That was a month ago. Got ready to bottle today, opened up the chest freezer and what the??.... bubbling away with a good...

The homebrew house of my dreams... is 30 days away!!

I am super stoked. The below photo is a separate outbuilding on our new home we just purchased. It has it's own HVAC, full bathroom and water heater. 650 sq. ft. We are going to turn this into a brewhouse/tasting room. Can't believe this is happening!!

Good to be back on the horse again....

A lot of things happened in my life the past couple years, divorce.. my father passing a close grandmother passing. It has been two years since I have brewed. Just wasn't ready to be normal again I guess. But on this fine 64 degree morning, I am brewing up my nice brown ale. Feels good to be...

First BIAB, photos...brew notes...why did I not do this earlier...

So that was awesome...entire brew day 2 hours 45 min!! Holy... Brew Notes...two unknowns going into this that had me nervous was how much water to start with because BIAB calculators on the net are all over the place. And what kind of temperature loss will I have not using the pre-heated 10...

Almost ready to switch to BIAB, recipe question...

On NB - I notice there are BIAB recipes, why would the recipe change between AG and BIAB? Why would the grain bill change? Thanks.
