15 Gallon BrewBuilt Kettle Pickup Tube abd Boilcoil Question

I have the 15 gal BrewBuilt Kettle and a Blichmann Boilcoil, what would you recommend for a pickup tube? Morebeer recommended the Big Dipper but it's out of stock everywhere I've looked. Anyone have this setup that can recommend the right pickup configuration?

Question for my First Time Adjusting Water

I've only used a quarter campden tablet to treat my water in the past. For tomorrows brew I am going to treat it according to the values I got from BS3 to match a pale ale profile. In addition to my campden addition, I'll be adding: Calcium chloride Gypsum Epsom Chalk I typically add the...

Moving from Induction to a Controller/Element - Wiring Question

I currently use the Avantco IC3500 and had an outlet installed to support it years ago. The IC3500 uses a NEMA 6-20P plug. I am thinking of getting the SS Brewtech 1V system which uses a L6-30 plug. Can I use an adapter like this or should I have my electrician come back and rewire?

Hose Connection and Faucet Acces on Utility Sink

I have a utility sink in the basement that I hook my RV water line hose to for filling my kettle. I like to keep it hooked up most of the time because it's easier to clean my equipment that way. I want to be able to use the faucet as well so need some type of splitter. Would something like...

CO2 Purged PET Bottle or Vacuum Sealed Ball Jar for Hop Storage?

I have a stainless carbonator cap and some amber PET bottles. I could fill the PET bottle with bulk hops, attach the cap and purge the CO2. Downside is I'd have to swap out the cap for a regular bottle cap, potentially letting in some oxygen. (fast forward to 2 minutes, 6 seconds)...

Bayou Classic 1064 vs Spike Brewing 10Gal for Induction Brewing

I've been using a BC 1064 for BIAB induction brewing on my Avantco IC3500 for 3 years and it works great, no real issues at all. I've got a scorch ring on the bottom but otherwise great. I have a weldless fitting for a ball valve/pickup as well as a sight glass. I'm thinking ahead to Xmas...

Fermenting in Corny Keg - A Few Questions Here

I am fermenting an IPA in a corny keg, first time doing this. Has worked well so far. I have a slightly bent dip tube and a blow off on the gas post. 1) Should I cold crash to compact the trub before I transfer to the serving keg? If so, how would I do that? Should I just remove the blowoff...

Chest Freezer - Compressor Hump Fermenter

I have the 5.0cf GE FCM5SHWW which is an updated version of the FCM5SUWW. I am looking for the largest fermentation vessel I can get on the hump without adding a collar. The 3 gallon BB is too tall to fit with an airlock (doubtful a blowoff would fit either). Anyone doing something similar?

Anyone Using the GE 5.0 cu feet Chest Freezer FCM5SHWW

And is this model (FCM5SHWW) the replacement for the FCM5SUWW? I just bought it ($199 delivered) from Home Depot and it's being delivered next week. Want to be sure it will work as a fermentation chamber. I am only going to be fermenting 1 Ale Pail at a time so I have to imagine any 5 cu foot...

Beersmith Cooling Loss and BIAB Confusion

Beersmith tells me I need to "Add 7.91 gal of Water at 161.3F" for my mash. Is it assuming the 7.91 gal of volume is measure at 161.3F? Because if I have 4% shrinkage figured into my volume loss, and measure my strike water at room temp then I will be off by 4% correct? :drunk: Edit to Add...

    Massachusetts Free: Bottles in Boston

UPDATE: No longer available, thanks! I have about 8 cases of amber pry-top bottles to give away. Some are de-labeled but most are not. They were all rinsed after use. I moved to kegging and kept about 7 cases, this is what was left over. Let me know if you are interested and we can arrange...

New to Yeast Starter - Have a Few Questions

Made my first yeast starter on Wednesday night for tonights brew. I am brewing a blonde ale with a 1.050 OG. I used the Yeast Starter tool in Beersmith and it recommended a .75 liter starter for my WLP001. I am planning to save some of my starter for a future starter (the "Novel Approach") so I...

Troubleshooting Metallic Taste in Two Beers

I am trying to track down a metallic taste I have in two of my beers. Both beers tasted great out of the fermenter. But developed a metallic taste shortly after carbonating. The chance I could have overcarbed is pretty high, but the 30PSI for 24hours seems to be a widely used method. Here...

In my kegerator I have a 5lb CO2 tank with a dual gauge regulator and a Wye splitter in place of the shutoff barb like so: I want to move the tank outside the kegerator but only run one gas line in and have the wye splitter on the inside to distribute. What will I need to connect the...

    Beersmith, BIAB and Cooling Shrinkage

I was reading an old post that didn't seem to come to a resolution. It was in the All-Grain forum and not software, so I am creating this new thread in Software to hopefully get some answers. Essentially, for BIAB brewers using Beersmith, do you zero out the "Cooling Shrinkage" value in your...

    Troubleshooting Brew Day Mistakes

I brewed a 3 gallon batch of Da Yoopers House Pale Ale last night and hit quite a few snags. This is only my second brew on a new setup so still working out the kinks. Issue #1: I got terrible mash efficiency (BIAB). I was in a rush and milled my grains with a faster speed than I usually do...
