Kettle Upgrade for Whirlpooling/Improved Cooling Questions

This is my exact protocol and it’s worked for a few years without issue. For the cooler I use https://jadedbrewing.com/products/jaded-counterflow-chiller-cfc It returns the wort at high enough speed to whirlpool. I use groundwater in Mississippi to get the wort down to around 80. I then run...

Pin Lock to Ball Lock Conversion

Thanks as always for the advice. I’m hoping this cycle is leak free and this is nothing to worry about further.

Pin Lock to Ball Lock Conversion

They leak with pin lock o rings sometimes as well. I bought completely new ones based on previous posts and use the hell out of lube. Sounds like the vote though is not worth the conversion? This is year 7 of the kegerator and it’s been a significant problem with QDs becoming loose. Was...

Pin Lock to Ball Lock Conversion

I've been running nine taps with pin lock kegs for awhile now. Sometimes its great, sometimes its exasperating. When there's a problem, it has universally been the gas QD / post interface. I've got the correct size washers on the post. I use keg lube like religion. Kegs don't leak when QDs...

Line Length vs. Flow Control and Proper Carbonation/Flow Rate

Either put in a ton of line or use flow control to get resistance to deal with highest psi you can imagine having a beer at. At lower psi you'll just get slower pours. I went to 20 feet line when I was having issues a few years back and while wasteful, I've been very happy

How can I mount a secondary CO2 regulator to the wall of my DIY keezer?

You can drill into the lid as well. Even mount a bolt through the top. Bonus is the regulators are looking at you when you open it up. Works better if you have something built around the keezer to hide the hardware.

    First time kegger here

If you have a fridge, you have room for multiple kegs I would imagine. If it's truly one keg, brew something you like! I would drink one to completion and manage the pipeline as kegs age in the basement.

How to keep debris from clogging keg

FYI, I went cask widge over clear beer drought system solely because I occasionally ferment in Sanke kegs and the clear beer won't fit. Looks like a great product for cornys

How to keep debris from clogging keg

Similar solution and about the same price is a cask widge. I use them in my corny fermenters to keep the crud out of the poppet.

Old pin locks and universal poppets

I have tons of those pin locks and the universals literally universally work. It's been the only "easy" fix in the kegging system to date. I have a number of posts that are bent or lean and they still do very fine. That being said, I have other sources of leaks with pin locks. . .

    Got to fill the kegerator

I have been floored by the popularity of a simple saison at these things. First beers that float are the raspberry wheat, pilsner, and saison made from pilsner and Saaz. The big Belgians and boozy stouts are for the more adventurous. Made me think of stretching people into a little bit more...

    Got to fill the kegerator

Give away enough beer and you’ll have as many acquaintances as you want! We have a bunch of kids born the same month and always throw them a combined birthday party with bounce house, etc. the parents tend to come and stay with beer and BBQ around. Ends of being an all day affair out on the...

    Got to fill the kegerator

Got a party coming up and need to get some beer in my kegerator. Got nine taps and looking at serving: 1. Pilsner 2. Classic saison 3. DIPA (Ghost in the Machine Clone?) 4. Hoppy ruby saison 5. Raspberry Wheat 6. Bock / Doppel Bock 7. Belgian dubbel 8. Stout 9. Cider...

Anyone want to take a crack at a Parish Ghost in the Machine clone?

Responding to follow. Just picked up 2 four packs of ghost. First time to enjoy one and will be cloning ASAP! I loved Bloom but this is something else. Next time in NOLA, check out Courtyard Brewery as well. Great vibe and amazing beers.

    Leaking Spunding Valve

I've read all spunding valves leak. Is this true? I've been doing a few pressurized ferments the last few weeks and have gotten the gauge to raise to the 10 psi I've set it at only to see if drop within 2-3 days as fermentation completes. In my system, I run a jumper from gas post of...

Screwed up a little - bail out?

Beta glucan rest is a wonderful idea. The last 2 lbs of oats were an audible at the last minute when I realized I had some in the pantry. Cutting that out would have helped. Lesson is either make wort the way I have for the last 10 years or commit to a real change I guess. Maltodextrin is...

Screwed up a little - bail out?

Solubility is big concern. I think I can do the math unfortunately. 20 points per gallon needed x 12 gallons leaves me with six pounds needed? Plus whatever volume of water I add needs to have extract to make it 1.060. 1.5 lb extra for each gallon of water. Total of 8-9 lbs in 1.5-2 gallon of...

Screwed up a little - bail out?

Trying to get a sour solera going. Goal was 1.060 - 1.065 wort with 10 gallon post boil volume. Recipe: 11lb pale 11lb wheat malt 3.5lb oats 1lb rye Mash at 155 for 45 minutes. Raised to 170 for sparge. Collected 12.5 gallons. Was trying to squeeze in a brew session on Sunday when I was...

Potential base beer for a sour?

I figured waste not want not but you are probably right. Not sure if it was mold since the beer has held in the keezer for months. Quad has lacto and multiple “house” Brett. Didn’t comment on Pedio. I’ve got a brett c beer on tap that I’d add to it as well with some cherry juice. Probably...

Potential base beer for a sour?

I brewed a Belgian dubbel a while back. Airlock went dry and I had a white patch on the surface. Assumed it was mold (probably correct) and transferred it to a keg and quickly tapped it. It is ok but certainly not great. No amazing Belgian character but no real off flavors either. Used Antwerp...
