    Craft Beer & Brewing magazine

Maybe after I subscribe for another year or so I'll recognize the articles are rehashed. Also thanks for the tip on "Brewing Classic Styles". I will add it to our brewing library.

    What's your profession?

I'm a ballerina. What difference does it make?

How old is your oldest beer? (And is it drinkable)

Red ale is just over one year old, and my Kolsch and EPA are coming up on one year ... the reason they've lasted is because I've decided they suck. And I once thought my red ale was my WOW! beer.

    Music while brewing

I also only listen to brewing podcasts when I brew. I also noticed that the only time I whistle, hum or sing a tune, is when I'm in the kitchen cooking or brewing.

Making my wife understand the obsession

not knowing your financial situation maybe she is right, or maybe she isn't. But if it's going to be an issue maybe discuss it with her, and let her know how important it is to your brewing and tell her you would like to set a goal of owning a conical, then start saving up to buy one. I bet...

    Missed My Barley Wine OG

I'm pissed at myself for making all efforts to make my first barley wine a good one, with extra attention to my yeast starter, filtered water, sanitation, and I thought if this one went well I could move onto all-grain. But then in the end I got careless when adding water and I missed my OG...

How long is too long in the primary

Pumpkin porter was in the primary for three months because of a surgery. It turned out great.

    Starter not fermenting

I tried the plastic wrap test and it shows no sign of fermentation, so looks like I'll be starting over with the yeast starter. Also I realized I might not have prepared my starter properly. I used only one packet of Wyeast instead of two packets for OG >1080. This is the kind of stuff I...

    Starter not fermenting

Hey All, I made my first starter last night and this morning still no activity other than a trace of foam on the surface that I think might be from stirring. I planned on brewing my barleywine tomorrow. Is it typical to have so little activity 12 hours after pitching? If not typical I...

    Yeast starter DME leftover

First starter is in the flask but what to do with a nearly full bag of leftover DME? How long can it be stored?

    First batch in the fermenter

I always want to congratulate people on their first brew. It kind of feels like a first date.

    Do you cold crash?

I only had to cold crash one brew because it was in the primary for two months and would not clear up. I cold crashed it in a tub of ice for two days and it cleared right up.

Just had my first Barleywine...J.W. Lees Autumn Ale

I have my first barleywine kit sitting in my kitchen waiting to be brewed. Unfortunately got caught up in chores this weekend but hopefully I'll be brewing next weekend. Can't wait!

    Bottles

I still buy micro beers from the distributor and I always make sure the bottles are pop-off before buying. It's a win-win situation.

    Nest step after beer kits?

Next step?, I was just asking myself the same question. I'd like to move into all-grain but I don't think I'm ready, so instead I decided to step into making my own yeast starters and creating my own extract recipes rather than buying my kits. Hopefully when the weather warms up I can move...

    WOW beers! What are yours?

Just did a pumpkin porter that I will now call my WOW! beer. I had to let it sit in the primary for 10 weeks due to a surgery, but it still turned out...Wow!. I think every brew I do gets better.

Most Disgusting Beer Ever - Cucumber Flavored

Magic Hat Hicu cucumber flavored beer. This was the first time I ever dumped a beer down the drain because it was 100% disgusting and totally undrinkable. But I do I like the other Magic Hat beers.

how to reduce sediment in bottle

After several weeks in primary I racked my last batch in a secondary and was amazed at how much settled to the bottom of the carboy. But I'm not sure if it's worth the extra effort as a few days in the fridge might have the same result.
