when do I put in the wort chiller?

Brewing my first full boil batch with a propane cooker. When do I put in the wort chiller?

what does good crushed grain look like?

Getting ready for my first AG batch, and I need to know what my crushed grain should look like. Anyone have any good pictures? :mug:

    Has anybody done this before?

I recently bought a twelve pack of Sam Adams White Ale and I'm not too crazy about it. I recently tried Dogfishhead 90-Minute IPA for the first time ever and every since then everything else just seems too mild for me. So, in a (drunken) effort to up the bitterness on this, I took a pinch of...

    general recipe guidelines for malt

I'm about to start all grain brewing and was wondering if there was a general rule-of-thumb for how much malt to include in my recipe? I'm thinking about making a dark rye ale recipe of some sort.

    kettle size

I'm working on switching to all grain and am looking to buy a turkey fryer kit to handle the full boil. Is the 32 quart kettle large enough to boil the 7 gallons of water needed to brew? I'm really trying to get this on a budget (having to save for a wedding at the moment) and I really can't...

    AG equipment on a budget

Hey all, I am really wanting to start AG, but I am not completely sure on all of the equipment I need. I was going to make my mash/lauter tun out of a big cooler like I've seen many other people do. Other than that, what do I need to get this stuff going?

    Making my own brewing software

Hey guys and gals, So, I've decided to make some brewing software in what little free time I have and would like your opinions on what should it should do. Right now I only have it barely designed (nothing works yet, but it sure looks pretty!) in Mac OS X. I plan on making it available on most...

Full boil and wort chiller question

Well it's that time of year where you can't go into your local supermarket without tripping over the turkey fryers every 10 feet or so. I got to thinking that this would be a good time for me to look at moving to full boils. Is there a particular type of turkey fryer that is better than others...

cooling the fermenter to the proper temp

I'm trying to brew a kolsch right now, and I'm having trouble getting the fermenter down to the right temp. For now, I have a wet towel wrapped around it with part of it dipped in water to sort of act as a wick. The temp right now is around 73 F. Is there a better way to get it down to 60-65ish?

Ok guys, tell me it's going to be okay

I've done the unthinkable. In an impatient moment (two actually) I have opened a bottle of my beer that's been in the bottles since Monday, and it was horrible. It has an anesthesia taste to it. I wouldn't be worried, but this is my second batch, and I did the same with my first (trying a bottle...

    Big mistake?

I just placed an order for my next beer which included liquid yeast. morebeer offers to ship ice packs with the liquid yeast to help preserve it, but I neglected to add it to the cart when I placed my order. Will the yeast be DOA?

    Liquid Yeast question

I am about to place an order for a kolsch as my next brew, and morebeer.com recommends that I use liquid yeast. Is this something I can just pitch in? Or do I have to buy a yeast starter kit along with the liquid yeast to do the whole yeast starter thing?

    Ugh, what to brew next??

Hi all, I'm a relatively new homebrewer. I just finished my 2nd brew (a porter that's currently conditioning), and am looking to try something new. My first brew was an amber. I can only do extract brewing right now, as I don't have the money or experience to do any all grain just yet. What...

    Greetings from AL

Greetings everyone! I'm a novice homebrewer. I'm currently brewing a porter, it's my second brew so far. My first was an amber that I messed up on, but it still turned out to be pretty good. Cheers :mug: Ryan
