Scottish Export Four Peaks Kiltlifter Clone

Trying this right now. Nearest HBS had a smoked grain, but not from peat. So that's the first variation, but I'm also pitching a Scottish ale yeast strain instead.

Snow ESB - 100% pure snow.

So the Army moved me to upstate NY, to be a part of wonderful Fort Drum. I don't exactly relish the situation. Primarily because I'm invested in a 100 different out door hobbies and this place is under several feet of snow and sub freezing temperatures for the better part of a year. One...

    Grandma's liquid apple pie

On my first attempt, last March, I dumped all 5# of honey in. It just settled to the bottom, then I pitched the yeast last. You could see the yeast resting on top of the honey for a while before it sprang to life. The yeast consumed everything, and fairly quickly. Last Sunday, for my second...

    Oatmeal Stout Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

After a late start due to a much needed cleaning of my entire system, I brewed this. My LHBS didn't have the yeast, so I went with Irish Ale instead. We'll see how this turns out.

Just relocated to Fort Drum/Watertown NY.

I stand corrected. I saw the place that you are talking about today. I've actually driven by it a few times but the sign was so weathered I couldn't tell what it was. I'm going to probably check it out tomorrow to see if it's open and how it is.

I was going to do was asking around about the water profile here. I'm on a well here and the water seems pretty hard. You know add anything to change the profile?

Just relocated to Fort Drum/Watertown NY.

As a matter of fact one came with the rental house I'm in. It's old but runs good, but the previous tenant was a lazy deadbeat, and claimed it didn't work as an excuse for never doing it and parking in the neighbors front yard without permission, until the cops had his truck impounded. At the...

Just relocated to Fort Drum/Watertown NY.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA No. There is nothing here. Deer and turkey. Which is good and bad. I like the change of the crowded fort lewis, but I'm not a fan of being an hour from anything. My homebrew bill quadrupled just from living here. I forgot the name of the pub in Sacket's Harbor...

    Greetings from the North Country

Are you still in the Evans Mills area or are you the guy that opened Raquette Brewing company? I'm about 5 miles out of Evans Mills now and have been to the Winemaker. I've browsed ingredients online but the shipping was equal or greater than the cost of the stuff that I was looking at. Is...

Just relocated to Fort Drum/Watertown NY.

So I've been a member for a few years now, but out in Washington State. The Army had other intentions for me and now I'm getting settled outside of Fort Drum and Watertown NY. Not sure how many home brewers are in the area of if theres even a LHBS is the area. I'm pretty sure that I'll have...

Historical Beer: Kentucky Common "Kiss Yer Cousin" Rye Kentucky Common Ale

I've lost track of how many times I've brewed this in the last year. Either 5 or 6 times, but I love it, especially in the summer. I have a keg on tap now, and I'm planning on brewing another just to have it at the ready.

Funny things you've overheard about beer

An acquaintance of mine just posted a pic on FB of a bottle of Irish Death next to a frosty mug. The mug was a full and looked like it was supposed to be a root beer float. I didn't make any comments on the bizarre way he was enjoying his beer, but later his wife posted that he does that...

    American IPA Hopslam Clone

Most of my beers have had an abundance of CO2 in them lately. I have to draw out a sample and let it sit a while before I can get an accurate gravity on it. I used WLP001
