Jaded Brewing Wort Chillers: A Review

Hey Dailey, when I upgraded to electric BIAB I got the Jaded specifically for my set up. It works great and cools quicker than anything I've used before or after. I got the King Cobra and couldn't be happier with the investment. I too had concerns about the element so I built a small "stand"...

You know you're a home brewer when?

Despite the 100's of great brews you've made in the last 20 years u still remember comments like "tastes like vegetable soup" or "hmmmm, kind of nutty" from your first few batches. No more vegetable soup!!!!!

Jaded Brewing Wort Chillers: A Review

Not a "beta-tester", so no bias here. Purchased a King Cobra recently and despite the price and wait time (3 weeks to ship) couldn't be more impressed with the performance. I live in SE Louisiana (gulf coast) and the tap temps right now are 80+. I have never been satisfied with any IC prior...

    Jaded King Cobra immersion chiller

Oh man, sorry, just realized this thread was under "looking to buy"....yea, I agree I don't see anyone selling a used one, but you never know. Just brewed again today (6+gal batch) and was blown away how fast it chills. I got below 140 in under 3 mins with good old SE Louisiana's tap water...

    Jaded King Cobra immersion chiller

Just bought one, one word, awesome. Okay, now for the details. When I ordered 3-4 weeks ago, I got an email saying that it might take 4-6 weeks to build. I wasn't so happy about that, but like most things that are this high end (like the services of a good welder), time is part of the overall...

    Ebiab kettle size?

    You won't regret it.

    Ebiab kettle size?

I would recommend the 15 gal pot. Like you, I have only ever done "5 gallon" batches, which typically are closer to 6 than 5 because of the 6.5 Fermenters I use. I have used 4 or 5 different pots in my years of brewing, all under 10 gallons and ALWAYS worried about boiling over. Now, in my...

    Boil kettle choice for eBIAB

Zgja, totally love the controller, I did a few test runs and the temps are held within a degree while recirculating. I had an EBCII for about three years and absolutely loved it. Dave has always been great to work with.

    Boil kettle choice for eBIAB

I'm having a custom SS basket made by Utah Bio Diesel. The diameter will be 12.5" with plenty of clearance. The pics are a little deceptive, that barb really doesn't stick out that far. In fact, it's the 2" temp probe that causes the biggest clearance issue.

    Boil kettle choice for eBIAB

More pics of hot pod and inside of kettle. Good luck.

    Boil kettle choice for eBIAB

Here's a pic, still waiting on the SS mesh bag (UtahBioDiesel) but so far no leaks and the 5500 get it to boil really fast.

    Boil kettle choice for eBIAB

I just upgraded my rig so perhaps my experience will assist: Addressing your kettle choice; If you are going EBIAB then I don't see a reason to spend the extra money for the tri-clad bottom (1316). And, while the 1064 has a spigot and the calibrated marks, I would actually recommend the...

Kamado cookers thread (green egg, kamado joe, primo etc)

6 hours on the smoke, then finish out the the other 18 hours in my oversized crockpot. (I know, it's cheating, but I swear it's better this way!) The smell in the house always drives my dogs crazy!

Big Mouth Bubbler - Who has one?

For what it's worth, I've used everything from glass carboys to stainless carboys/conicals/corneys and obviously plastic buckets and after getting two BigMouth B's (plastic 6.5's) can't consider using anything again. They are just WAY too easy to clean, lift and siphon out of. Also, I can...

    Meat Grinder

Agree with all about the KA being not so good as a stuffer. Actually i dont think its a good grinder either. It kneads my pizza dough like no other though...... I got an LEM stainless handcrank w/metal gears and love it. I can toss the barrel in the freezer and control meat temps really well...

    Smoker Suggestions

I was down this road somewhat about 5 years ago. I first dropped cash on a brinkman vertical, then after being dissatisfied (but definitley hooked on smoking/barbeque) bought a chargriller with a smoke box. Needless to say I didnt like the performance of this one either for MANY reasons...

    Batch Sparging and mashing

As far as temps go, i always shoot on the high side and if i need to bring them down i just add a few cubes of ice to the mash to get the exact temp. Its much easier than trying to add boiling water if you undershoot. Dont ask me how i know this..........

Making the swich to AG. Need help.

Johnny, i just went AG in the last two years and couldnt be happier with my setup. Granted, i did spend a little more money up front, but the quality and the overall ease of this equipment was worth it IMO. Also, it has the capacity and has allowed me to brew bigger and more complex beers along...
