    Dextrose

Can someone tell me the rate between 1 lb of dextrose and that amount of cups that is? I have it at home in a book but I am at a friends brewing at the moment. Thanks.

    Bottle Caps

Has anyone had luck finding bottle caps for sale at any place other than a HBS or bottle vendor? Perhaps a craft store?? I am in a bind because of course on the day I had planned to bottle and brew the next batch I forgot to order more caps with the rest of my supplies.

Singing the praises of dry yeast

Question on saving yeast: Do you have to wash the yeast or can you just rack it to sanitized bottles? I have seen both and wasn't sure which was preferred (the best?) If I had to guess I would think that washing it would be for more long term storage.

    wort chilling

I have heard people complain that both clog easily and they recommend that you filter the wort first. A few even said they went back to a copper tube. Have you looked into the copper tube inside of a hose? You get the same benefits of the counter flow but they can be fabricated easily and...

    pressure cooker?

A pressure could would only allow you to cook the wort at a higher temperature. I don't foresee this being advantageous.

    Bottling Question

Having too much headspace could be a problem as it introduces the beer to much more oxygen then if there was only an inch or so of headspace. If you must fill a bottle with more headspace, it is good to place a cap over the top and let it sit for a little while so that CO2 formed can purge some...

    Bottles -- Clear vs. Brown

It is also easier to judge fermentation in a clear vessel than in a brown on. I use my old college bath towels to wrap around my carboy in addition to keeping them in a dark place.

    salt water hydrometer

I agree with Doolittle, the hydrometer should work as long as it measures high enough SG that you will be brewing. Also, make sure to sanitize it really well... you probably don't want any fishy or salty tasting beer...

60 Bottles for $9- Good deal or not?

If you can get caps on them then I would say it's a good deal

    Good Christmas Brew

Any suggestions for a PM (or extract) Christmas brew? Besides Apfelwein. I don't have equipment for lagering so ales would be preferred. I searched through the recipe database and didn't come up with anything that sounded too great.

    Bottle Fillers

I also have a spring tip and it makes bottling a whole heck of a lot easier. Just press on the bottom of the bottle and then lift up when the beer is at the top. Presto! You could probably make a manifold with 4 (or more?) of those attached to it and use a common lever to press them down. It...

How long does homebrew stay good for?

I believe the threads that you may have read about beer going flat were pertaining to using plastic soda bottles for bottling. In a well sealed glass container homebrew can last for quite some time. For certain brews it is recommended to let them mature for at least a year.

    High OG

Hi All, I made a Hazelnut Brown Ale from a partial mash recipe and got an OG of 1.09. This seems incredibly high compared to what I have seen for this type of ale. I was expecting something in the 1.045 range. I used the tube (sterilized) that the hydrometer came in. Could this smaller...
