    Stuck fermentation.....

yeah, i swirled it and let it sit in a heating blanket so it will stay up around 70F. We'll see how it goes, i guess i'm wondering if it could do nothing but help and/or speed the process up if i went ahead and threw the second vial in.... or if it makes no difference.

    Stuck fermentation.....

I've had this problem with my last two beers, so this time when brewing an IPA i went ahead and bought two vials of liquid yeast. I'm 2 weeks in, and I've been stuck at 1.020 for about a week now, and am wondering if its kosher to simply dump the other vial in there. Also, i was planning...

Austin Homebrew Two-Hearted Ale Extract clone

yeah but i figured i went amarillo all the way anyways, why switch to the "centennial blend" of cascade and columbus

Austin Homebrew Two-Hearted Ale Extract clone

also, the kit called for 3oz in the boil and .5 oz dry hop, but it only came with 3oz, all of which i used in the boil. Ive never brewed an IPA before, but i know most recipes dry hop, and with atleast half an ounce. How crucial do yall think this will be to the result? I went ahead and...

Austin Homebrew Two-Hearted Ale Extract clone

I really love this beer, and just brewed Austin Homebrews clone of it. One thing i know about Two Hearted Ale is that it uses all Centennial hops, whereas this kit came with all Amarillo. I suspect its due to the hop shortage but i was just wondering if anyones ever brewed this kit with with...

Should I still have krausen at this point?

I think you just need to wait. If it still has krausen then its still doing something, even if you have already reached your FG. The yeasts need to clean up after themselves. You would have nasty **** in your inevitably sub-par beer if you racked right now. I just bottled a hefe that i...

    Peach Imperial IPA

Sounds good - i made a peach pale ale that was definitely a house favorite. would make this if i wasnt too peached out now.

    Bottle hefe early?

I usually leave my brews in the fermenter for at least 3 weeks, but seeing as im going out of town i want to bottle my hefe before i go. So long as i've hit my FG is there anything wrong with bottling after two weeks? Its my first hefe but i've heard there one of the fastest beers to brew...

Opening Ale Pail to get SG samples

I dont think you have to take the lid all the way off, and if you use sterilized equipment i dont think there is a very significant chance of infection. Personally, i believe all the hype about being super sterile is overblown. As long as you are smart about it and dont like stick your dirty...

    Hefe smell

Glad you asked this, i just opened my fermentor with a 4 day old hefe in it and immediately recoiled in disgust! I might have posted the same question had you not, good to know its completely normal.

first brew Hefe Q's, did i mess this up?

looks good to me! i just brewed up a hefe the other day and have had the same result, lot of airlock activity but nothing crazy, i have a blowoff but i dont think it was necessary. I think the color looks great.

    Delerium Tremens

Has anyone ever tried the Delerium Guillotine? delicious.

Mixed 1056 and 1272 by mistake

Im not extremely experienced but i think it will be fine. I've used the 1056 in an APA before with great results. Overpitching yeast is not usually a problem, and i don't see how using two yeasts designed for similar beer styles would be a problem either.

    Appropriate Hefe Ingredients?

You think i should just skip the specialty grains all together?
  17. B

    Appropriate Hefe Ingredients?

yeah thats what i was thinking, i mean i dont have to use everything. i believe the wheat dme is 45% wheat 55% base malt. I was thinking about use 4oz of the munich, and a little carapils for head retention.

    hydrometer kind of pointless ??

I really only use one to check for a stuck fermentation (which has happened to me on my last two brews). I dont trust it completely though, its kind of a crappy cheap one. Its off by a little bit, so i just take that into account when looking at FG. You can definitely make good beer without...

    Appropriate Hefe Ingredients?

So heres what i've got from a combination of leftovers of previous brews: Roughly 5lb wheat DME About 1lb XLDME Some carapils and a little munich grain, WLP300 Hefe yeast 1oz sterling 1oz us goldings SO i'm wondering if these ingredients... in any sort of combination... would make...

    Bottle Conditioning Temperature?

Yeah i guess i just assumed, i mean i know that no airlock activity does not necessarily mean no fermentation. The correlation just seemed too obvious, when i had my heating blanket turned on high it bubbled, and when it turned off it didnt. That led me to the belief that these saison yeasts...
