How much yeast do I need?

I'm doing 2 brews this weekend and ordered my grain bill online . I ordered enough to do a 10 gallon batch and a 5 gallon batch of the same beer. I ordered only 1 vial of yeast to save money. Can I grow enough yeast by Sat. to do my 15 gallons of beer, and if so how should I go about it?

    Should I drink em yet?

I've been brewing for almost a year now. I try and save 1 beer from each brew and bottle from my keg. I label and put away in my pantry, way back in the dark. My question is the first is coming up on one year old now. Should I start drinking some of these or just forget about them and keep them...

    Is my starter too young?

I am brewing a nut brown tonight and my estimated fg will be in the 5.5-6 range. I made a small yeast starter yesterday afternoon of about half a liter. I don't have a stir plate. I have been swirling it constantly. Is it ok to pitch this young starter and should I cool to decant first or pitch...

    Making the jump

Ok, I've been doing extract for a while and want to try all grain. I've gathered 3 American 15.5 kegs. I've looked on line for the weldless valves and such and am not just quite sure what all I need for a basic setup. I will do gravity feed at first probably put it all on a brew bench of sorts...

    Did I over carbonate?

My last two beers have poured foamy the whole keg through. Even multiple pours in one session doesn't change anything. The head stays for a while too. OK. Here's my carbonation procedure. After kegging, I hook up to the gas side and fill and purge with like 10 psi a few times to remove any 02...

I know not to panic but...

I am still brewing all extract. I've got 10 or so under my belt and all turned out great. I did a pale the other day I have been tweaking. Very simple pale ale I've brewed before. I pitched 1 vial of wl001 at room temp to my 68 or so degree wort. O.G. 1.042. It might be worth noting this is the...

can you split a yeast tube?

Hello all, I'm fairly new and all of my brews have consisted of extract w/ specialty grain steep. Also I have been direct pitching my liquid yeast with very good results on all of my 12 or so beers. I recently set up an account on Northern Brewer and made an order. I ordered double my recipe to...

Can I store finished beer where I ferment?

I got a large chest freezer and a Johnson control for Christmas. It has been working well thus far. My question is once I have finished and kegged a beer is it safe to store in the freezer where my temp is constantly fluctuating for fermentation, D rests , and lagering? I have all that extra...

Should I cold crash a wheat beer?

I am making a close resemblance of a summer wheat that turned out great last year. I have some citrus peel and some coriander in the boil that adds a nice citrus flavor profile. I am fermenting this as my first brew in my newly acquired chest freezer with a control at 67 F. I plan on give a d...

    Temp controller

My wife just got me a GE 14.8 chest freezer for Christmas. I plan on lagering a few carboys at a time. What is a good temp controller for the freezer which is both reliable and easy to install.

Keg conditioning 4 gallons in a 5 gallon keg

I have a stout coming up and I'd like to bottle a few. I was thinking of racking all 5 gallons into a bottling bucket with priming sugar. Then I would bottle a gallon or so and then rack the rest to my korny keg. Would the increased head space in my keg due to the lack of beer effect my...

    Can I bottle cold beer?

I've got my first brew in a keg for 2 weeks conditioning and I'm eager to try it. I was going to force carb the slow way and serve after all was well. I am planning on carbing in the kegerator which means the beer will be cold. My question is after I do this I was going to bottle a few for...

    Fast brew

Ive got 4 partials under my belt and my sister is having a party and wants me to bring beer. All my brews prob won't appeal to the crowd there. Does anybody have a suggestion for an easy drinking brew that will be done fast? I have until the 9th of June for it to be ready.

Adding citrus peel to extract kit

As my subject says, I am brewing tonight and was wanting to add some citrus peel to an otherwise normal summer ale extract kit . This will b my third brew with the others turning out rather tasty. I don't know how to sanitize them, when to add, or to use fresh or dehydrated . I'm looking for...

    First beer, first carb

I am planning on force carbing my first beer. I have purchased 2 corny kegs. I was wondering if I could rack into the corny and hit it with just enough pressure to seal the lid and let it age for a couple of weeks at room temp. while not hooked up to gas. I plan on force carbonating in the...

    First beer, first force carb.

I am fixing to keg my first batch of beer and was wondering if I could rack into a corny and just pop it with enough pressure to seal the lid and let it age for a couple of weeks at room temp. While NOT hooked up to gas. I only have a 2 keg kegerator and am pressed for space. I will force carb...

    Stuck fermentation?

Hey guys, first post second brew. My first brew seems to be going fine. After racking to a secondary I brewed a batch of English brown( brewers best kit) and seemed to go well. Aerated the heck out of it by pouring back and fourth and mixing a lot. Wort was 72 when I pitched a packet of slightly...
