    Water pump for immersion chiller

Before I got a plate chiller I used to do the same thing. I used a cheap, like $7 submersible water fountain pump from harbor freight and a stock tank. The tank is used to water livestock and is available at a tractor supply for around $30. I got one about the size of the bathtub my wife no...

How much yeast do I need?

I'm doing 2 brews this weekend and ordered my grain bill online . I ordered enough to do a 10 gallon batch and a 5 gallon batch of the same beer. I ordered only 1 vial of yeast to save money. Can I grow enough yeast by Sat. to do my 15 gallons of beer, and if so how should I go about it?

    Should I drink em yet?

I think amandad summed it all up for me. My original goal was to re brew beers and taste the old to compare but the bug bit me and I had to make all different types of beer.

    Should I drink em yet?

I've been brewing for almost a year now. I try and save 1 beer from each brew and bottle from my keg. I label and put away in my pantry, way back in the dark. My question is the first is coming up on one year old now. Should I start drinking some of these or just forget about them and keep them...

    Is my starter too young?

Sorry about the repost I didn't think it came through the first time.

    Is my starter too young?

As I wrote the first post I realized I goofed.yesterday when I made a starter with 2 cups of water and one half a cup of DME, I forgot to add water to bring my volume up to half a gallon. Today I added the water in swirled. I hope this hasn't harmed my yeast.

    Is my starter too young?

As I wrote my original post I realized I goofed. I made a starter of 2 cups of water with 1/2 cup of dme boiled and forgot to add top off water to volume. I made this yesterday as I said. This morning I just added enough water to bring my volume up to 1/2 gallon or so. I hope I didn't ruin it.

    Is my starter too young?

I am brewing a nut brown tonight and my estimated fg will be in the 5.5-6 range. I made a small yeast starter yesterday afternoon of about half a liter. I don't have a stir plate. I have been swirling it constantly. Is it ok to pitch this young starter and should I cool to decant first or pitch...

    Making the jump

Ok, I've been doing extract for a while and want to try all grain. I've gathered 3 American 15.5 kegs. I've looked on line for the weldless valves and such and am not just quite sure what all I need for a basic setup. I will do gravity feed at first probably put it all on a brew bench of sorts...

    Did I over carbonate?

I know. I used to use the chart and all went well. I was just getting impatient ,

    Did I over carbonate?

Ok, I left out to warm, unhooked, for 12 hrs purging as necessary. I returned to refrigeration and still left off the gas for 36 hrs. I just hooked back up to gas and beer is pretty much flat. I guess that was the prob. I will leave in the kegerator at 5 Psi , testing daily. I guess this is...

    Did I over carbonate?

Thank you all. The easiest thing for me to do is disconnect my current keg and let it warm pulling the valve once Ina while. I'll report back. I use to carb by taking my kegs to the kegerator and testing after 1 week. I left them hooked up at serving pressure and after a week or so it was fine.

    Did I over carbonate?

My last two beers have poured foamy the whole keg through. Even multiple pours in one session doesn't change anything. The head stays for a while too. OK. Here's my carbonation procedure. After kegging, I hook up to the gas side and fill and purge with like 10 psi a few times to remove any 02...

HBT dictionary...or commonly misspelled brew terms

Also it is a vial of yeast not a "vile". Although it could be a vile vial. Sorry.

I know not to panic but...

Update... I misspoke earlier. I was fermenting at 64. I bumped it up to 68 and it took right off. Guess that makes since.

I know not to panic but...

Advice taken. I'm brewing Saturday the same recipe. I'm as we speak making a starter of WLP 051. If my first doesn't show me anything by then, I will pitch half the starter.

I know not to panic but...

I am still brewing all extract. I've got 10 or so under my belt and all turned out great. I did a pale the other day I have been tweaking. Very simple pale ale I've brewed before. I pitched 1 vial of wl001 at room temp to my 68 or so degree wort. O.G. 1.042. It might be worth noting this is the...

    Back to Full boils w/extract

Not that I'm an expert but my experience of approx. .75gal. Of water per lb of grain gives a steep somewhere around 2.5-3 gal. I then do a full 5 gal. boil adding water to my steeped water accordingly . All of my beers have come out great.

can you split a yeast tube?

Hello all, I'm fairly new and all of my brews have consisted of extract w/ specialty grain steep. Also I have been direct pitching my liquid yeast with very good results on all of my 12 or so beers. I recently set up an account on Northern Brewer and made an order. I ordered double my recipe to...
