    brew day oops

Just finished my brew day by sitting down and calculating my brewhouse eff. 130%...eh somethings wrong here. After auditing everything, this morning I mixed up all my buckets of grains. They're all mixed up. So I made 11gal of 1.060 something. I have no idea what. I suspect there is some crystal...

another noob first time cider question

Just made my first cider! I got five gallons of cider un-pasturized, treated it with campten tablets, acid blend, yeast nutrient, and brought the OG to 1.069 with dextrose, and oxygenated the must. I pitched champagne yeast, and it's off to a slow start. Really slow. Like two bubbles from the...

looking for advice on an ice wine kit...

which I bought by accident. The instructions call for mandatory filtering due to the residual sugars in the kit and the chance of continued fermentation in the bottle. I don't have the equipment to do this, so any ideas what I can do? I was thinking of storing the bottles at refrigerator temp...

noticed that by compacting my grain bed...

I noticed (completely by accident the first time) that if say, 80% of the way through my wort collection, that if I sparge too slowly and allow my grain bed to compact, say by half, and continue to sparge but on the compacted bed, my efficiency goes from my average 75-80% to about 90%. I did...

    Low oxygen water

Has anyone tried to make very low <1ppm oxygen water at home? I was wondering if hooking up CO2 to a diffusion stone and pushing the CO2 through the water while it as boiling would mimic the process breweries use?

    Lautering 10-gallon batches

When you guys brew ten gallon batches, how long does it take for you to fly sparge and lauter the whole batch? If you collect wort at 1 gallon in 12 minutes with a 5 gallon batch, do you collect 2 gallons in 12 minutes for a 10 gallon batch? In other words, as you scale up the batch size...

    hydrogen sulfide

A question for you beer gurus! I have cider/beer hybrid ready to drink. It has a confirmed case of hydrogen sulfide. The brew tastes great, the sulphide is all in the aroma and is moderately strong. Will this clear up with a couple months of bottle conditioning on the basement floor? Toss...

122 degree blast of water to the eye

Has any one ever pushed a bottle down onto the bottle washer and missed the nozzle but pushed down the plate--and got a pressurized blast of hot water right to your eyeball and knocked you down to the floor in a comic over-reaction? Not that this happened to me this weekend...just wondering.
