    Harvesting Wild Yeast

I too just tackled this! Caught a wild strain that gave me a cross between a belgian and a hefeweizen! Banana and xlove dominated and the yeast was much of a floculator. However, it finished down low! Like a belgian triple might! Very cool. Currently have it in a starter to step it up. I'd love...

    Mash&Boil vs Robo Brew

If you look back, the thread started to become dominated by plate chiller Versus immersion chiller - I do not think a plate chiller is even included with either the robo or the m&b. I only addressed someone's confusion between Ic and pc to be polite and then move on with the discussion. I don't...

    Mash&Boil vs Robo Brew

An Ic chiller has cold water running trough it and it is the outside that comes in contact with the wort vs the inside. Anyway, I think chillers can best be discussed elsewhere. The robobrew comes with an ic - use it or use what you already have. Back to the actual product - does it save...

    Mash&Boil vs Robo Brew

So just over 6 in the boil and 5 exact to the fermenter? How much did you leave behind in the kettle and what do you suppose your boil off was? 60 minute boil? I'd love to get some decent numbers to add to my profile for when I bite the bullet and pick one up.

    Mash&Boil vs Robo Brew

Thanks a ton! My mind is made up. Only 50 bucks more than Mash and Boil and free shipping! I only wish it were double walled - however, my current kettle is single walled and when wrapped in a sleeping bag never needs hot water added so I think I'll be okay!

    Mash&Boil vs Robo Brew

I wonder if you can still find V2 of the robobrew... I don't really want the pump and chiller but waterproof controls and larger size (to avoid boil over) would be nice. For say 350-400....

    Brewer's Edge Mash & Boil

I just read this entire thread, thinking the whole time "Surely, these guys must have seen the robobrew!" Must be newer than I thought. The guy in one of their videos runs you through the three models they've made/improved upon. He compares the new model to a slightly older model w/o the pump...

    First BIAB Brew today!

I looked into the Amalyse and read some stuff about it taking beers all the way down to 1.000! Since I wasn't WAY off and would indeed need a mere teaspoon, I decided not to risk it. I bottled the beer on Friday. I did not take a gravity reading as I didn't want to start thinking and toying...

    First brew choice help?

Do you think he'd really need two packs? Hefe's are usually under 1.060... One pack should suffice. I'd agree here with Beernut though. Hefeweizen is pretty straight forward and a delicious first beer! A Porter might also be up your alley and would make for a decent first beer. All in...

    First BIAB Brew today!

This is interesting and I'm tempted to try it. I'm honestly only 8 points or so over my target FG so it should be drinkable. However, when I pulled a sample it tasted sweet as hell. I wasn't sure I liked it. I'll pull another sample tomorrow or Friday and decide if I should give this a whirl. I...

    First BIAB Brew today!

OH, I'll try it for sure. I have only had one beer that I have tossed some of - I choked down most of it... lol My wife had to baby sit a fermenting beer for me and when I came back after two weeks, I found the lid popped up from a vigorous ferm. I bottled it anyway but it tasted a bit sour. Too...

    First BIAB Brew today!

Good to know... I assume mine will be a bit too sweet to drink but then again I was thinking of bottling it with some Limeaide to make a bit of a shanty. Guess I'll skip the Limeaide and it just might taste like a shanty anyway. Only time will tell. I guess I'll have to give this recipe...

    First BIAB Brew today!

Thanks for confirming this JD. Lesson learned I guess. I feel a little better knowing that I'm not alone! :) I guess I'll just let it play out. Thanks again. What did you think of the beer overall? Too sweet? Drinkable?

    First BIAB Brew today!

Update: So I racked to the secondary today - all active fermentation had ceased - there had been a very small krausen on this thing... I took a gravity reading and it was at 1.020! :( This had been the first time I had a fermentation without any bubbles in the airlock but I didn't sweat it. I...

    First BIAB Brew today!

Thanks TangoHotel that sounds like a good idea. I'll try it next batch.

    First BIAB Brew today!

Oh, my one BIG question: Should I keep temp probe in the actual mash in the bag or just underneath it in the water? I'd hate to have the same issue arise again.

    First BIAB Brew today!

Okay folks, I lost internet on brew day so I'm back to fill you in on what went down. Though the temperature apparently hit 180 degrees in the pot while mashing, I had been about 30 - 40 minutes into the mash so I still ended up with a bit of sugar... My buddy and I took a deep breath and just...

    First BIAB Brew today!

This is exactly what my buddy kept saying "relax" I think it will be fine. He brews regularly (always extract) and has never read any of the books so he doesn't know the RDWHAHB term but he brews with this same mindset. As it was, we ending up hitting 2 points high on the OG and had a...

    First BIAB Brew today!

I was thinking of taking a pre gravity reading and if I was off I'd add some honey as a late addition... Will that work?

    First BIAB Brew today!

About 1/2 an hour... I will definitely stir the whole time next time!
