    Stir plate suggestions?

Thanks all! Great feedback and much appreciated. I decided to go middle of the road and went with this one: Duda Energy mags Aluminum HJ-1 Magnetic Stirrer for Use with Magnetic Stir Bars, 2400 rpm https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005F7R8Z8/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 The reviews were pretty...

    Stir plate suggestions?

Hi all, I'm looking to purchase a stir plate. Does anyone have a favorite model they'd recommend? The prices online vary greatly, so I figured it was worth asking. Also, I've done the whole DIY model in the past and it was ok but I think I'll just drop the coin for a pre-built one this time...

Wort sat for 2 days before boil

Thanks, all. Things seemed to go normally during/after the boil. The wort tasted normal to me so I think I'm in the clear! Thanks again. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Wort sat for 2 days before boil

Thanks for the input. Doubtful I was over 160 as I mashed at 154. Fingers crossed, I guess! Would a below normal gravity reading indicate pesky yeasts eating some of the good stuff? I have 10 mins left in the boil. Cheers. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Wort sat for 2 days before boil

Question for any seasoned pros out there. I started an all-grain Sierra Nevada Celebration clone on Saturday and ran out of time towards the end of the process. As a result, I had 6 gallons of unboiled wort sitting in my kitchen (in the boil kettle covered with the lid) for two days. I threw it...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

Teaching my neighbor to brew. His first batch. Gave him recipe rights and... Sigh... We're brewing a Hefe. Not hating just not my usual IPA favorites. Still happy to pop another brewing cherry. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

I'd bet all the money in the world that you are fine. Can't tell you how many much larger sani slips I've had and I've yet to experience an infection. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

heady topper for somthing cool i havnt had

I have a Bale Breaker Topcutter IPA I'd be willing to trade. You won't be able find it locally (or almost anywhere). Google it's story and PM me if interested. Normally I'd hoard it as I only have 3 left but I'd be willing to trade as I've never had a HT and its on my list.

    What's in your fermenter(s)?

Pumpkin porter and an AleSmith IPA clone. Excited for both!

Hoppiest commercial brew you have ever drank?

Bale Breaker's IPA from Yakima, Wa. Hard to find but buy it if you can find it. Made on one of the largest hop farms in Yakima. Look 'em up, chances are the hops used in a lot of the brews mentioned in this thread came from that brewery.

    Bottling Fruit Beers

I've made a few raspberry brews with whole fruit. I've found it helpful to cold crash it for a long while. Helps a lot although cold crashing is not ideal for a hefe.

A Likely Paranoid "What's Eating Me?" Post

Update: I took the hose to the leaves and then minced about 8 garlic cloves into water and put it in a spray bottle. I gave the whole plant a generous spray with the garlic water. It seems to have done the trick as I haven't seen any problem since. Apparently the lil' bastards hate garlic...

    Must Have Hop to grow

Funny, my dog hates hops and the smell of beer but for some reason she loves to eat the leaves only from my Cascade plant. She decaptitated the poor plant a day after I trimmed it down to the best sprouts. It corrected itself, which shows how resiliant these plants are. +1 for selecting plants...

    job site cooler?

I'm 2 batches into my orange HD cooler. So far, so good. The only issue I've seen is the indentation where the spigot goes is a centimeter too deep, which causes a bit of issue closing the spigot all the way. There's not enough room to compensate with a washer or whatever, so you have to crank...

    Tacoma Wa. water...good for brewing?

I live in Central Tacoma and brew often with tap water. I'm not super picky about my water (no treatment, etc) but use it often for the 3+ gallon boil and then top off with bottled water. Never had any bad taste that I've noticed or my friends have pointed out. It must be decent, they're...

    IPA attempt - take 2

Am I reading that correctly? Are you saying after a 6 gallon post-boil, you have more than 3 gallons of trub after chilling the brew? Trub is what is found after fermentation has happened. At what point, exactly, are you referring to? Usually at the end of the boil/chill there is just hop...

Is my beer safe to drink?

+1 Agreed. Fear no beer. Diluted star-san or not.

    Bottled beer

+1 Plus, IMO, it'll taste better when you decanter the yeast.
