North Carolina DIY Glycol chilled Sanke with Chest Freezer

I put together this thing last year before I got out of the brewing hobby. Here's a thread with pictures. I'll sell the whole shebang for $350 (includes chest freezer with collar, ST-1000 temperature controller, a Sanke keg (dip tube removed), 50' of copper tubing, and 8' of Flex-Watt...

Using MLT/RIMS to make chicken stock

Has anyone here attempted this before? False bottom, precise temperature control, large cooking vessel. Seems like it would work but I worry about all the fat and floating debris somehow getting into a nook or cranny and never coming out. I don't think I would risk running the stock through my...

    U-Shaped RIMS tube

I'm currently conceptualizing my next build and an considering a U-shaped RIMS tube to keep all my wiring on the back side of the rig. Is there any reason to think that 1.5" tubing with a 180* turn would cause any problems with flow, heating, temperature readings etc?

    Modifying a Chugger pump head

I can't recall seeing this idea done much if at all on these boards, but it seems like an interested possibility. I was wondering about welding triclover fittings onto a Chugger pump head. I have two stainless center inlet chugger pumps with Triclover X FPT fittings. The ID of a 1" triclover...

    Valve actuator retrofit

Does anybody know of an (affordable) valve actuator that could be retrofit to one of these three way ball valves?

Best way to wire indoor BCS to outside brew rig?

I'm thinking about getting a BCS system. I assume it would be best to mount the BCS control box near my fermentation chamber since it will always need to be plugged in. But how should I connect the BCS to my outdoor propane RIMS rig? Distance is probably 20-30' but I could possibly move things...

Two-tier all-grain Stainless RIMS Rig for sale - Greensboro, NC

I built this rig during the last year. It works really well but I'm thinking about redesigning it and building another single tier rig this winter. This Beauty (dubbed The Defibrewlator) is built from 1.5" stainless tubing with stainless splash/heat shields on the front side and 5" locking...

Seeking feedback/advice for temperature controlled sanke fermenter

So I have a spare Sanke keg that I'm planning to turn into a temperature controlled fermenter. My current plan is to wrap a coil of copper tubing around the keg and circulate chilled glycol through it. I would like to put a bucket of glycol in my chest freezer with a submersible pond/fountain...

    Describe your ideal fermentation/serving chamber

I think I have a chance to do something really cool in my unfinished basement. The stairs leading down there are shaped like a U as they come down. There is enough space under the stairs to build an insulated walk-in fermentation chamber. Also I have preliminary approval from SWMBO to put a bar...

    Double dip-tube?

I have an idea for a dip tube in my MLT that goes to a tee and then out the keggle on opposite sides. One side would go towards the HLT where it would be connected via a three-way valve to the HLT and the pump-RIMS tube. The other side would go out to the BK. See the schematic below. The idea...

    My two tier structure

I decided to make the jump to all-grain with a gusto. I've done half a dozen extract brews over the last few years, but the beer was never all that great. So after reading as much as I could stand and lending a hand in an all-grain session or two, I decided to take the plunge. My father-in-law...

Structure advice for an All-Grain newbie

So I've done about a dozen extract brews off and on for the last few years using a turkey fryer and a plastic fermenter. I've got a few friends around here in the same boat and we've decided to make the leap into all grain. I've been reading on here the last few days about the different styles...
