    First time yeast harvest

Hi, I'm wondering how much of this slurry to use in a 5 gallon batch? I mixed up all the trub with about 300ml of leftover beer. Stirred it all up and poured into two mason jars. Poured off the top beer from both and consolidated into this. Do I pour all or half of the non-beer yeast and...

    infection?

it's a coopers fermenter bucket. What's my best bet for cleaning this? Soak with a little oxy clean?

    Bottling while krausen present?

This krausen looks really waxy. I haven't opened it, it's the new style coopers fermenter so I can see it pretty well. Top of the bucket is showing no condensation at all. Probably safe. Tastes awesome. I'll report back on this in a few weeks to tell if anything blew up :p

    Bottling while krausen present?

I just did a biab centennial blonde. Been in the primary for 10 days now and there's a thick, creamy krausen layer on top that looks to be about a quarter inch thick that won't seem to fall. I'm thinking of just racking and bottling it, because I want to get another one going on a bit of the...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Awesome recipe. Curious to know about something. I made edworts pale ale and planned on making 15 gallons based on what I bought. Really happy with it, but I'm thinking something lighter might be better for my caloric intake. Also, I priced this out and if I re-use the s-05 it'll run me about...

    Early Beer Tasting

So.. I decided to drink a couple green beers just for fun. I bottle condition, after 3 days I opened a bottle and it was barely drinkable. Strong astringent taste, little to no head. Tonight is day 6, still a faint astringently taste but definitley more drinkable, drank the whole thing...

Hmm. Any similar hops I could use?

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

I'm missing a few ingredients but I'm hoping I can sub in some stuff: my lhbs doesn't stock cara-pils. Can I sub in .75# more two row? Also, no centennial hops. Can I sub with cascade instead? I also have some few month old EKG kicking around. S-05 works with this as well, correct...

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

What's the consensus on fermenting time with S-05? I took a reading after 3 days and I'm at the suggested FG. I plan on leaving it another week and change, probably a total of 2 weeks. Sound about right?

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

So I brewed this up on Saturday, BIAB method. Put 28L in the pot as I thought 30 would be pushing it, turns out it would have been okay. Ended up with 19L (5.0 Gallons) volume into the fermenter so my OG was slightly higher @ ~75% efficiency. Got a terrific hot break, stuck at 152, was my first...

How precise must one be in brewing?

Be precise with your cleaning and sanitizing. That's one thing you don't want to mess with. A few degrees in your mash here or there, not a big deal. Infecting it, big deal.

How to secure raised BIAB bag?

Strainer basket and pail works great. I don't think you could make any sort of contraption for any less. A grate over the kettle is good, but I like being able to really push down on the bag to get out lots of liquid. I wouldn't trust doing that ontop of a full kettle.

    clouded tubing with oxy clean

After infecting my last batch I filled my primary and threw in my equipment with a little too much oxt clean (probably half a cup into 5 gallons). I rinsed everything a few times and got the smell out (its original oxy clean) of everything. My tubing doesn't smell but it looks cloudy now, should...

    non food grade bottling bucket

After fumbling around bottling with the siphon I said screw it and got a proper bottling bucket with a spigot. Using the Lowes bucket to haul grain and it fits my collander perfectly to squeeze my bag into. Cost me $19 but will make my beer making life easier

    Jiro Dreams of Sushi

Hey everyone, I'm still new to homebrewing (less than a year, a couple biabs and extract kits under my belt) .. but I watched the movie in the title Thrusday and it instantly made me want to brew right away. It's a little hard to get your hands on, but it's a really good documentary. My last...

    Post your weight gain

As long as you factor in your beer consumption into your daily maintenance calories, you should be fine. I work out for the sole purpose of being able to eat 3,000 calories a day and maintain weight.
