    Hops for non-citrusy pale ale

I've got a friend who wants a lower gravity pale ale (somewhere between 4% and 5% abv) and doesn't like the citrus dominated pale ales (or IPAs). I was leaning towards a combination of Amarillo, Columbus and Chinook. I've never used Columbus or Chinook, so I don't know what the...

    Kegging stupidity

I did something really dumb a couple of days ago. I was kegging an esb that I made a couple of weeks ago and somehow mistook my keg off sanitizer for my keg off esb! I had my beer sitting in my garage not under co2 while my sanitizer was in the keg fridge under co2. I only noticed when I...

    Nightmare mash

I'm currently at the end of a nightmare 3 hour mash due to knocking my manifold loose at some point. Ugh. This sucks. Guess I'm not going to bed early tonight.

Is it worth it to upgrade the faucets?

I have a 6-tap kegerator that has the standard faucets. I've been having a lot of trouble with mold in the faucets. I'm told that perlicks don't have the same issues. Is it worth upgrading? What ones would you recommend?

    I have a problem

Since I got my kegerator, I feel like I'm not able to brew as often as I would like. I picked up a 6 tap (with 6 kegs), but I'm not able to brew more beer until they're empty. Somehow, I never had this problem with bottles... I really don't want to go back to bottling, and getting more kegs...

Bought a used kegerator off of craigslist

I bought a used kegerator off of craigslist and found that it had beer left in two of the kegs. Would you trust it? I'm not exactly out of beer, but I don't have much that is ready to drink. I know I shouldn't get sick from beer as nothing can live in beer that can kill me, but I have no...

Anyone save homebrews for vertical tastings?

I was bottling last night with a buddy and pulled out 4 beers that I've saved to do a vertical tasting. They were all the same recipe (amber ale), but brewed at different times. (First was an extract, the rest all-grain) The results were pretty interesting. The extract was MUCH sweeter than...

    Trub in fermenter

I bottled up a saison tonight that my co-brewer did on his own. Here's the recipe: http://hopville.com/recipe/1525205/saison-recipes/rye-farmhouse-saison It was a 10 gallon batch that was split into two ferementers. One had around 6 gallons in it, and that was bottled tonight. This...

    Opening bottles warm

First of all, I tried to search, but didn't come up with much. I know that I'm supposed to stick my brews in the fridge for a couple of days before opening them, but it doesn't always work out that way. I had a bottle explode at some point in the last couple of days. I just walked into...

This will be my first "from scratch" recipe. What do you guys think? Anything glaring need to be changed? http://hopville.com/recipe/1564529/american-brown-ale-recipes/honey-brown This is for a 10gal batch, btw. % LB OZ Malt or Fermentable ppg °L 80% 20 0 American Two-row Pale 37...

    Blending beer question

I've got two beers that are ho-hum on their own, but as a blend it is fantastic! My question is: Can I combine the two recipes and make a 10 gallon batch and have it turn out like a blend, or does it not work like that?

Why do I keep making beers that I don't like?

The last 3 beers that I've made, I haven't liked. I made a brown ale that ended up way too weak. I'm told that is the style, though. Next was a raspberry ale that is way too tart. Once again, my friends like it, but I don't. Last, I made a german Hefeweizen. Turns out I don't really...

    Big mistake today!

I can't believe I did this... Everything was going so well. Second all-grain with my new mash tun (6th overall). I hit my mash temp perfectly. Hit my volumes perfectly. Hit my OG perfectly. Everything was going so smooth until just after I pitched my yeast and realized that (since I just...

What the heck did I brew?

The recipe: http://hopville.com/recipe/1281110/specialty-beer-recipes/midnight-oil The story: I was brewing last night and after I took my post-boil gravity, I found that it didn't come close to what I was expecting. I was expecting a 1.066, but it ended up being a 1.098! :drunk: I...
