    My hiatus is over!

After almost two years of collecting dust, I’m getting the gear cleaned up and ready to dive back in. Put the old rig through its paces today with water, and baring a few small issues, everything checked out good. Can’t believe how many little things I’ve forgot. I’m glad it was water in those...

The cobblers kid finally got shoes.

I’ve had a “3 month leak” for far too long in my fridge/fermentation chamber. It’s only been a year or so.......... 1. See temp start to slip 2. Find evap coil starting to freeze 3. Hurriedly thaw, and throw in a couple ounces of refrigerant. 4. Swear to myself that I’ll look for the...

    Sidearm?

So is this the beginning of a sidearm? If this was a tomato plant, I’d call it a sucker and pull it off! Obviously I’m not planning on doing that, but simply trying to understand all the stages of development along the way. This is a first year (hence the newb question) Centennial. Edit: BTW...

All grain canned wort, so far so good!

Made up a small batch, and canned it a while back. Finally got around to using some to step up a 1056, and WOW, I’m in love! Compared to my typical DME starters, this was a breeze! Since I did a partial boil and canned under 15psi, I felt good about using it straight from the jar after a...

Commercial fridge turned ferment and cooler combo

This is a True GDM-52 that I’ve turned the bottom half into a fermentation chamber, while leaving the top as cold storage and a place to carb kegs. @Jbrown57 is about to do a build on a GDM 72 (72cu ft!!) and asked about my build, so I figured I’d post some pics here instead of hijacking his...

    Inkbird IHT-1P thermometer

My Inkbird thermometer just arrived and looks fantastic. So far I’ve only had a chance to check a pork roast compared to my former “go to” meat thermometer and this won hands down as far as speed. Both were within 1/2deg of each other. Anyone use one of these and have anything other than good...

Fiberglass - A twist on an old faithful design

I built this a couple years back, but thought someone might find some inspiration by posting a few pics. The idea was to have a "tailgaiter" setup that wouldn't mind a thunderstorm or two and was a "party in a box concept" complete with Solo cup dispenser and marine certified stereo system...

    Any good ipad apps?

Anybody creating labels on there ipad? I usually take my ipad with me when I know I will have time to kill, and would be cool if I could use that time to play around with label designs. So far everything I've tried (apps) is pretty lame and just geared towards touching up photographs.

    Hydrometer calibration changing over time?

Anyone had a hydrometer fall out of calibration? I noticed the last couple batches finishing a little higher than expected, so I double checked the last one with a second (and finally a third) hydrometer only to find out that my "primary" hydrometer was off by .003. Not a huge deal, but I go...

    Using lactose at bottling?

I've seen several recipe's that add lactose just prior to bottling "to taste". Is lactose 100% unfermentable, or will this affect amount of fermentables need for conditioning? If so, is there a chart somewhere that can spell it out? I have never used it (lactose) before, but I'm on trial...
