Hello all,

I was just wondering if I wanted to brew a 1/4 batch instead of a whole 5gallon batch of beer do I just cut all ingredients and still brew the recipe the same?

The reason behind this question is that I'm looking into a few new recipes and am not sure if I will like them or not. So as to minimize any waste (if there is any) I'm looking at brewing a 1/4 batch.

Thanks for your time with this.

Yes, you can just scale it down. Still boil for 60 minutes, etc.

I suggest considering 1/2 batches rather than 1/4. You may find that the amount of lost wort does not scale down with batch size, so you'll lose a higher percentage with a smaller batch.

Well for the container I would have to go out and buy a 2-3? gallon container to ferment in. I don't think my 5gallon carboy would do with a 1/4-1/2 batch. Any recommendations for container?
