I took my initial reading of 1.043 at 118 degrees (F) and recalibrated it to 1.051.
The problem was that I took that measurement when it was at 3 gallons and I added 2 more gallons to the carboy.
Since I don't have a wine thief, is there anyway to recalibrate for the extra 2 gallons on water I added (without awkwardly pouring it out of my glass carboy)?
