How quickly will light effect beer. I usually keep my fermenter covered and in a dark spot. Except when I am transfering to the secondary. Do I need to build a dark room to transfer my beer...just kidding. Just wondering how quickly light can effect the beer.

Thanks

Unprotected beer is affected within minutes by direct sunlight (and some fluorescent bulbs too I've heard, though none of the ones I have seem to have any effect).

I throw a t-shirt over my better bottles when I'm racking out of them personally. But I'm also 'lucky' in that my apartment kitchen has no window.

You're probably fine then, I wouldn't worry too much. On the other hand if your next batch tastes and smells like skunk you may want to think about a t-shirt or something next time. :D
