I'm planning on trying this in the near future. Taking a 5 gal kit and reducing the volumes to up the OG, though i will be adding extra hops to the mix and maybe an addition of honey to up it more. I tend to get bored with following others recipes.
Pulled a sample for a gravity reading today and it was a lot lighter than I thought. Always seems darker in the fermenter. This stuff won't last...tastes great warm and flat :mug:
I, for one, welcome our new beer brewing mathematician overlords :D I just looked this equation up the other day for my new boil pot. It just seemed easier than dumping 8 gallons of water!
Just wanted to say thanks for this awesome thread. Helped a ton on my first biab. My very scientific process was to pull bag out of boil pot and dunk in water. lol
Bought some 2 row and used up some extra grains/hops I had lying around. What did I make? I was thinking along the lines of a pale ale, but it turned out pretty dark. Not-so-pale ale maybe :D
10 lbs Pale Malt (2 Row)
1 lbs Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L
4.0 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt - 20L
0.75...
I did 3 oz. on my first stout and that was perfect for my tastes. It was hell waiting though. Took 3 or 4 weeks in the bottle before it seem to carb up correctly.
