    Pilots who are avid brewers

Great thread! Been looking for something like this for a long time. CFI with 2,000 hours and looking for ANYTHING to move up. Since the airlines have stopped, everything else has as well:mad:

    Faucet on the keg

I have to agree with somehow hooking up the faucet inside the fridge. You need the hose in there for resistance. I use 1ft of 3/16"ID hose for every 2psi. I carb and serve my beers 12-13psi with 6ft of line and I always get a 1 inch head on top:mug:

    Putting the Hops to Bed

As long as you have snow covering the hills, you're in good shape.

    Couple pics..

Universe- Nice setup. I wish my crawlspace was that high(it's lower than your septic pipe). What is the R Value of the Styrofoam WallMate on your foundation? Edit: Nevermind, I now saw it is 12 from the blowoff pics.

    "Dough-In" method

S/S kettle with FB, heat water to 168F, add grains, and apply heat if needed to adjust temp. Pretty simple.

    So who's expanding?

I can't fit anymore on the property. I got 25 lbs fully dried this last season PLUS I still have at least 4 lbs from last year....NO MORE! :) Until we get more land....

    rhizomes

FxdGrMind- I've gotten all my rhizomes from a buddy of mine who is a big hop farmer in Lower Yakima Valley. But I do know that LHBS have them. Talk to Bill at Olympic Brew in Bremerton. He has a list of varieties you can choose from and he'll place the order in April/March.

    rhizomes

The hop rhizome will be harvested in early March and sold in early April. Spring is when the roots start sprouting. When you get them, plant them right away. Get 'em in soil and let the fun begin!

    Mulch for around hop hills

I'd go with grass hay. Straw hay would be better. It helps trap in air for the cold nights and yet keeps out the sun for your weed control(personally, I don't put a dang thing around them, even when it's in the single digits outside. They're a weed, they'll survive.)

    Spacing between twine lines?

Depends. Are the hop bines the same hop? If so, put the as close as you want. If different varieties, I'd go at least 3ft. Even then, you'll have to tend to them everyday rewrapping laterals.
