    12 Quart BIAB Pot Recommendations

Just checked the cheaper Mainstay ones at Walmart. A magnet does not stick to the bottom. Can you check yours and report back? These do not seem induction capable.

    12 Quart BIAB Pot Recommendations

Curious on which pots you have. I have a 12 Qt Mainstay with the glass lid from Walmart. It is most definitely NOT induction capable.

    12 Quart BIAB Pot Recommendations

I found the pot you are referring to. Looks like $20 maybe. I will give it a shot. Do you have experience with either of those two? That Ikea one almost seems like a no-brainer for an entry-level burner to play around with

    12 Quart BIAB Pot Recommendations

Thanks. The only thing that worries me about that one is the diameter. Seems wider than it is tall. That might be problem liquid depth and boil off

    12 Quart BIAB Pot Recommendations

Looking to do 1.5 gallon BIAB batches (scaling back from 5 gallon, 2 vessel all grain). Interested in "induction ready" as well. Any recommendations for a brew pot? I have found several online just seeing if anyone has one they are currently using and are happy with.

Small Batch Kettle and Induction Burner Recommendation

I have been brewing 5-gallon, two vessel, all grain batches for 6 years. For multiple reasons, I am going downsize and start brewing 1.5 gallon batches. One of my goals is to simplify my equipment setup and process and eliminate the use of a propane burner. I am planning to do BIAB and possibly...

    Interesting Lager Predicament: Too fast?

Thanks guys. Regarding the temp...I only chilled to 60 because of a time crunch. I checked my log and I did actually have my fermenter chamber set to 54 ambient. The temp of the wort was also at 54 when the airlock started. I then bumped it down. Hopefully I avoided the esters. Think I will...

    Interesting Lager Predicament: Too fast?

I took my first crack at brewing a lager last Saturday (6 days ago). My recipe came out to 1.048 OG. I opted to use WLP940 Mexican Lager. Beersmith called for a 1.8L starter. Due to an error on my part, my started ended up at 1.6. I spun it for 3 days and chilled it for 1 day before...

Just another wood brew rig build...

Nice job!! Looks like a setup that would work well for my future plans as well. Couple of things: Would love to see some pics of how you set it up with your mash tun on brew day. Also, could you share how you did your setup for your electric HLT? Most of the e-brewery set ups on here are...

Fruit in Secondary - gravity question

I recently brewed a Kolsch. Starting gravity was 1.050, finish gravity was 1.010 (both as expected). I used a bottling bucket for primary fermentation. I racked off around 1 gallon using the spigot (to insure I got some yeast) onto two pounds of sliced, frozen then thawed strawberries into...

    Yeast Starter Size Post Boil

Thanks for the thought. I only have a 1L flash at the moment so I will probably just do 800g in 1L of water. It does seem odd that the conventional wisdom of 10:1 is a bit misleading when you account for boil off. Or am I misinterpreting the conventional wisdom?

    Yeast Starter Size Post Boil

I have searched the forums and can't find this question specifically answered. Here is my starter process: Measure 1L of water, pour into pot Measure 100g of DME, stir into water Boil 10 minutes Pour into flask Cool in sink ice bath Resulting starter size = 800mL Is this a 1L starter...

Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

This may have already been mentioned, but I thought it was a nice realization. I searched the thread and didn't see that anyone had done it. I made mine out of a 5 gallon Rubbermaid cooler. For the time being, I am going to use it for partial mash and use a bag in the cooler so I did not...

Thoughts for a "slider/pull out" for chest freezer

So I picked up a nice 8.2 cubic feet chest freezer this weekend to use for a fermentation chamber. I will fit perfectly under my existing workbench thus not taking up any addition floor space. I will obviously have to slide it out to access it, which I am fine with. I am going to start out with...

    Favorite IPA Hop Combos

Chinook and Galaxy. I brewed an IPA with Chinook for bittering at 60 mins and then finished with Galaxy at 20, 15, 10, 5 and flame out. Dry-hopped with both. Turned out incredible.
