Thanks guys,
I'm hoping since there was only a tsp. of undissolved sugar on the bottom of the bucket when it was empty, that the sugar got distributed enough. I did a gentle stir for about 3 min. after racking to the bottling bucket so I'll just have to wait and see. Won't make that mistake again.
I knew I was forgetting something. Instead of stirring my priming sugar into 16 oz. of boiling water ( for a 5 gal batch), I dumped the sugar into the bottom of my bottling bucket and then siphoned the brew in on top of it . I did give it a gentle 2 min. stir. When I was done racking, I saw...
Can I get some opinions on whether using a cooler for a mash tune will effect the taste of the final product. I just can't think that pouring hot water into a plastic cooler will not leave a plastic taste. thank you
Thanks for the replies guys. I tasted Stone Levitation for the first time the other night and decided I'd try a stab at brewing a clone. I love the strong smell and taste of the hops in it but I'd like to tone down the bitterness. I guess I can add the hops later in the boil but I'm afraid I'll...
I steeped ( following kit instructions) starting at 150F with temperature rising to about 168 over a period of 20 min. I'm wondering if I crushed the grains too fine and released tannis. Some of the crushed grain was like a powder and was fine enough to come through the mesh bag before dunking.
It's a mild ale kit by Northern Brewer. Alcohol content 3.1%.Here's how they describe it - Mild ales are very light-bodied with low bitterness but dark in color and full of malty flavor, striking a nice balance between quaffability and character. A special blend of malts imparts a nutty dryness...
I think it's done fermenting. The kit instructions called for 2 weeks and it's been 3. Specific gravity is stable. I'm used to drinking light beer, that's why I ordered this kit. The only reason I asked is because I've read how some guys here sampled their beer just before bottling and said the...
I just tasted a mild ale that's been in the fermenter for three weeks. Was really bitter. I know it's supposed to get much better after bottling and aging but I was expecting a better taste than that at this point. Is this common to be that bitter? My kit supplier assured me that this would be...
I know when you transfer from the fermenter to the bottling bucket, you try not to aerate the beer. I didn't get a lid with my bucket so should I cover the top of the bucket with something( plastic wrap) while I'm syphoning into it.?
