    Barrel Aging a RIS

    TY very much pappers!

    Dry hopping in secondary.

Just a counter opinion, I always move my DIPA to a glass carboy for dry hopping. Yes, a personal choice, just not a fan of a plastic vessel after the extra head space is no longer needed. I understand the o2 argument, but using an auto-siphon into a co2 purged carboy(usually but not always)...

    Barrel Aging a RIS

This will be my first attempt at barrel aging, I've read quite a bit already but like most things the opinions are all over the place. If someone who has barrel aging experience can answer a few q's I'd appreciate it. Background: I got the 10 gal. barrel in mid last week and a couple...

Sons of Liberty Uprising and Battle Cry 10 gal. Barrels

and FYI, here's what inspired me to get their barrel and pay more for shipping vs. something more local... At the Sons of Liberty, we are making American Single Malt Whiskies that are leading the craft revolution. We are thrilled to start that revolution with Uprising. Using 100% malted...

Sons of Liberty Uprising and Battle Cry 10 gal. Barrels

Has anyone used these before? They are single malt whiskey. Distiller recommends the Uprising for stouts and Battle Cry for Belgians and the base grains for each whiskey are from each style respectively.

    HERMS build

Cool, good luck and hope your lager turns out great! I have an anova sous (only use it for cooking, run my coil in the HLT) and the submerged portion with heating coil gets hot while it circulates. The instructions caution about allowing submerged plastic to rest against it. I was only...

The rise of the beer snob

I will admit that I act like I like them at the new release bottle shares...LOL https://www.thrillist.com/drink/nation/19-types-of-beer-snobs-beer-enthusiasts

    HERMS build

I would use the pump to push vs. pull the mash liquid through the coil. I think you will have a tough time getting it primed with that configuration. Otherwise should work fine, keep the avon sous away from the coil as best possible to avoid hot spots. Maybe double bucket or some alternative...

    Ball Valve on recirculation ports

while I have the ball valve on the out port of the pump, I fine tune with the valve on the mash in. Just convenience so I don't have to adjust look to see if right, and repeat until happy. This way I crank it until happy and go have a beer.

How much is two much for one 12 oz beer?

I went to Perennial's Barrel Aged 17 brewery release last week. Was sticker shocked at the $25 for a 750ml. I expect it with the BA Abraxas given demand, but 17 ain't Abraxas. Anyway I was in a line of about 3-400 ppl so I bought it this time but will not make the trip next year. Between...

Been Uping my Game and would appreciate some advice

The ratio required to cover the bed was significantly reducing my sparge volume and at the time I was just batch sparging so leaving fermentable sugars in the tun. It shouldn't be as much of an issue now doing the fly, but using the team cooler vs. kettle for tun and 2 (vs 3) banjos in stand...

Been Uping my Game and would appreciate some advice

Wow that was a lot of thought, thanks! My pitched batches came from the patio setup, been smoother sailing with the stand, etc. Biggest improvements I recognize so far are from the HERMS, chillplate speed vs immersion, whirlpool and top one is the ferm keezer. I am lazy/forgetful/buzzed off...

Blichmann Beer Gun or is it?

No white flag necessary at all, I am not trying to discourage or harsh on anyone who chooses this route, just giving a personal experience that motivates me. I apologize if it came across that way and I hope it works out great for you. In all likelihood it will be nearly identical, I know...
