    too long in secondary?

It's a Munton's no-boil kit. Had not made a batch from one of these kits, so thought a light pilsner would be a good test. When I stopped at Midwest to pick up the Stout extract kit the guys said this was normal for a pilsner and should clarify over time but they recommended at least two...

    too long in secondary?

I'm thinking I may leave my recent brews in the secondary a bit longer than 2 weeks myself. My export pilsner was rather cloudy when I racked over. After a day I can see the top levels starting to clarify. So that will stay in secondary until clear. The stout just seems to cry out for a...

    Wilbur's Brewing Co. labels

MrBeer time to move on (maybe)

I'm in the same boat. Mr. Beer was a xmas present with three kits. After my second kit I was at the Home Brew Store picking up a full set of equipment and am lovin' every minute of it! Last night brewed a Pilsner while sipping on two bottles of my Charlie Brown Ale ... can't beat that!

    Tasting Feedback

My riding club met last Saturday for a Homebrew Tasting Party. I couldn't attend, but dropped off a case of 22oz Nut Brown Ale and a couple of 22oz bottles of my Java Stout. The feedback afterwards was very cool!!! They loved the Stout and want MORE!! And the Brown Ale was very good and...

    Volume Less than 5 Gallons

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'm just hung up on getting my gravities to where they should be and this threw me for a loop. Heck ... it's beer!!! How badly could it be screwed up??? <G>

    Volume Less than 5 Gallons

Not sure why at this point, but assuming I miss-read the volume markers on the primary due to foam and did NOT put enough water in my wort. I just racked over to the secondary and it's apparent it appears I was about 1/3 gallon light on the volume. I'll be taking a sg tonight (hydrometer...

    First Batches are a Success!

Last night I met with some friends and took over the last bottle of my initial California Pale Ale (Mr. Beer kit) and three bottles of my Java Stout (grain kit). The Stout is still very young and really needs more time in the bottle (only 6 days so far). But the concensus was all thumbs up...

    Lager Question

Thanks. Moved it out to my garage over lunch. We've had a pretty mild winter up here (35F today) and my interior garage temps hover around 45 degrees. If things warm then I may have to move to the basement closet (1 exterior wall so temps stay very cool).

    Lager Question

I also started a new Lager this weekend. Right now I have it fermenting in my primary at room temps (~68F). I was getting about 1 bubble every 15 seconds on Monday and this morning she's bubbling like a banshee. I'm thinking this is probably a good time to put her out in the garage (~40F) or...

    Lessons Leaned - First Brew

After one of my first batches I was talking with a friend who's been home brewing for a while. I told him how cool it was that my kitchen smelled like the breweries we had toured. He responded .... you know you enjoy home brewing when you visit a brewery and think to yourself that the...

    Lessons Leaned - First Brew

"stinky business"????? I ended up cooking two batches today. Figured I this way I would only have to hear about the aroma once. Kinda that 'two birds with one stone' bit. <G>

    Ruining The Stove Top

Worse yet .... today I bottled 24 22oz bottles of a very nice Java Stout (very nice hint of coffee!!!). After I disolved my sugar for priming I accidentally left the burner on low. In goes the sugar mix to the bottling pail. Beer is syphoned from the glass carboy. Carboy empty so I set...
