    Sankey coupler leaking

Hey All, So, I sometimes run commercial craft beer in my kegerator. I have a sankey "low profile" coupler. So, a keg kicked a few weeks ago, I decoupled it, and put the coupler in a pitcher of water (lines still connected). Fast forward a few weeks to tonight. I am ready to force carb a corny...

    custom built copper manifolds online?

Here is my advice- Go to Home Depot, get the required sections of pipe and joints, some solder, some flux, and a cheap propane torch. Soldering is pretty damn easy.

    Oatmeal Stout Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

So I brewed this up a while ago, but substituted rye versus oats and black patent for the black barley. I also added 8oz of cold brewed coffee (8 fluid ounces of water and 4 ounces by weight of dunkin donuts coffee). Fermented for 10 days, 2-3 weeks in secondary, and about 5-7 days force...

heating the mash with a heat exchanger

So, I know that with a RIMS and HERMs, you are pumping the mash to the heat source, but why not go the other way and put a coil in the mash and pump hot water through it? Bring the heat source to the mash? I am thinking you could even build a "wand" or some sort and stir the mash while heating...

How old is too old for malts

Thanks :) yea, In 2010 my wife and I had a kid. 11 months after that, we had another :cross:, so homebrewing was shelved for a bit. After spending the week cleaning, changing diapers, etc. the last thing I felt like doing on the weekend was cleaning homebrew gear :) Getting back into it though...

How old is too old for malts

I have grain that has been stored in home depot buckets that is like three years old. Tastes alright so i brewed with it the other day, so we will see what happens.

    Hangover prevention

I have been suffering from delayed hangovers recently. I wake up feeling fine, but by 10 or 11 am, I am near death. The odd thing is that I stop drinking somewhat early, like 11 or midnight.

Is it legal to lock a teen in a cage until 21?

You can have both, as is my case. My 2.5yo son thinks he is a dog sometimes. Barks at the window and wants to eat his dinner on the floor. Cracks me up every time. And yea, the bit about your kids running in to greet you is priceless. I have a 2.5yo son and a 1.6yo daughter. When I get home...

Any way to speed up the brew day?

I clock in at like four hours and that is considering I did nothing at all the night before. 60min mash, 15 min batch sparge, and 60 min boil. Clean and prep as you go. After I transfer to the fermenter all I really have to do is clean my pump and chiller, which really just consists of running...

Any new news on Home Depot Homer buckets?

I didn't read the whole thread, but here is a good reason why HD buckets are cheaper, even if they are HDPE. HD orders the buckets by the hundreds of thousands, if not millions. Each of those buckets costs them a couple of cents. A company that sells "Brew Buckets" are maybe only buying a few...

Returning to brewing after a few years

Yea I know they wont melt, but I am more worried about them leaching some kind of nasty chemical.

Returning to brewing after a few years

I have never noticed an off flavor from them either, my main worry is that they are not designed for boiling temps or food for that matter.

Returning to brewing after a few years

Yea tomorrow is the plan. I use to only brew with one burner, which was OK, but a PITA, but I scored a second burner, so finally, after brewing for several years, I should be able to brew without having to pick up keggle with liquid in them (i would have to swap the BK and HLT after sparging...

Returning to brewing after a few years

So, in 2010 I had a son, and in 2011, I had a daughter, so I have basically taken two and a half years off from brewing. I have a decent all grain setup that includes keggles and a cooler MLT, a nice march pump enclosure, etc. A few months ago I almost sold it all......but I just couldn't do it...

    Black Bottles?

You might want to make sure they are rated for pressure before you put carbonated beer in them.
