☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

Thanks for the replies, but.....I hastily pulled the trigger on the Hario Woodneck and the OXO electric kettle before I heard from anyone. I also got a Coffee Gator scale. I don't have too much buyer's regret, at least not yet, because I have been very happy with my OXO grinder and drip machine...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

With a birthday coming up, I'd like to up my game with pour over. I know this has been discussed many times on the last 143 pages, but I was wondering if anyone uses the OXO electric gooseneck and their feelings on it. I was also considering the Hario Woodneck cloth filter pour over drip pot...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

You were correct, Kealia. I found the element to be broken off at the terminal and the slide connector was in very bad shape on the tab. I reconnected the element and pinched the connector to make good contact and gave it a try and it heated up. I'm going to order a new one and request new...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

I did not see the orange glow. I will dig into that tomorrow. Thank you for that. Is the afterburner, when working, always on with the two quartz heaters?

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

Anyone ever have the performance of a Behmor 1600+ fall off? I do manual roasts. Preheat for 1:45. 1/2 lb. beans on 1 lb. setting. Roaster and beans stored at 70 F. Roast indoors at 70 F. P5 as soon as I push start. It will no longer achieve 300 degrees by 10:30 when the second fan starts. (Used...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

So Sunday I roasted some Guatemalan on the lighter side and then proceeded to put it in the smoker for an hour with a 70 cherry/30 hickory mix. I left it rest a couple of days before brewing. It wasn't an overwhelming smoke. It kinda reminded me of cherry pipe tobacco. It was OK. I won't rush to...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

I am slow to reply, but I did roast the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Dumerso using the above technique and got all kinds of blueberry. As it would turn out, now that I have the berry I was seeking, I find that's not really what I want in a coffee. BUT...this method has really upped my game with other...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

Anybody ever make a coffee stout with their home roasts? I was wondering if anyone has a particular coffee they recommend.

You know you're a home brewer when?

A Google Maps image of your house reveals a wet streak running down your driveway, which means you were chilling your wort when the satellite went overhead.

I remember way back in this thread you were very pleased with your OXO equipment. It was good to know right when I was in the market. I think we "met" a few years back in a rauchbier discussion, too.

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

I read that Sweet Marias article you linked. Thanks for that. Just the type of info I'm looking for. I can see that I'm going to have to go to 1/2 lb. roast to see if it makes a difference. I always have excellent voltage. It never drops under 120, so I figured I could get away with 1 lb...

Thanks. I will go with those guidelines, but I'm still waiting for shipping. Do you know what your peak temperature was?

I also have some of the Yirg Dumerso on the way from SM. I have been roasting nearly two years now and never really got the berry bombs out of the Africans that it seems like everyone else talks about. I do manual roasts on the Behmor and do very well with Central Americans. I especially have a...

I, too have the OXO drip and grinder on passedpawns endorsements about a year ago. Love them both. I'm also a Behmor guy.
