Over carbonation - too much priming sugar problem

I've read a couple places a few solutions to this problem but I guess I just want verification that I'm doing this right :drunk: I basically added enough priming sugar for 5 gallons of beer to only 4 gallons that I actually had. I didn't realize this until it had been sitting in bottles for...

Is this a good yeast starter?

I have finally gotten around to making a yeast starter for a Wit I plan on brewing tonight. I made the starter yesterday and I just want to make sure this is what should be expected. (this is only my 2nd starter). I have a 1000L flask (already, I know I need a 2000L going forward) and after...

White Labs vial - need a starter??

Normally, I use Wyeast and make a starter for it. The local shop isn't carrying Wyeast anymore and is now selling White Labs. The guy behind the counter, who appears to be very knowledgable, said the White Labs is nicer for many reasons, most being shipping, but he said that the vial is able...

    adding herbs to a brew?

Has anyone had any experience brewing with herbs? I am a noob and only have the time and money for extract kits. A family friend has a farm where I have unlimited access to herbs and want to brew something for them for a party. Any tips or suggestions? I was thinking basil or mint might be a...

    fermentation stopped...used a starter...??

I'm on my 3rd batch of brew. First one turned out great but it was from a hopped can of malt so I didn't do much. Second one was hit and miss in the bottles so I gave up on it. This 3rd batch is an American Wheat from Northern Brewer. I made a yeast starter for this one. The starter went...

temp control on a fermentation chamber

So...I've built my fermentation chamber from a mini fridge. I was hoping to fenagle the internal fridge control to get it to the temp I want (around 60-70 degrees) as I've read that some people have been able to do. No matter what setting I set the fridge at, whether its 0 or 7, the damn thing...

mini fridge freezer shelf removal for fermentation chamber

I'm attempting to convert a mini fridge I managed to snag for free into a fermentation chamber. My problem is the stupid freezer shelf is in the way. I have searched and searched for an easy explaination of how to move it out of the way, but can't figure it out. Any suggestions? Do I bend...

    pale malt extract (dumb question)

My next recipe is going to be an amber ale. The recipe calls for pale LME. The only thing close I see at my local brew store is Breiss Gold and Muntons Light and Extra Light. I'm trying to figure out which one would be best...if either...

    noob fermentation...possible problem

To be honest, I didn't use a recipe. I just kinda jumped right in following the books I'm reading and going straight from the cans (since it was already hopped). And to be honest, I already know what I'm going to do next...use unhopped and steep my own.

    noob fermentation...possible problem

I originally put cooled, pre-boiled water in the airlock, then topped it off with sanitizer solution. I am now going to be using vodka from now on. I figured that was going to be the answer I would get...so thank you for responding and assuring me to wait. :)

    noob fermentation...possible problem

I've been reading some posts to get information on brewing and I brewed my first batch this past saturday. I wanted to start slow to get the hang of it, so I just stuck with a hopped extract and added a light LME. I rehydrated the yeast packet that came with the hopped can in warm water and...
