    Batch sparging

What BobbyM just posted above is how I learned Batch Sparging. Once you try it, you'll realize how easy it is. Basicall all you're doing is draining your runoff all at once then rinsing the grains.

Need advice on thermometers for Rubbermaid 10 gallon coolers

Agree 100%. My Rubbermaid cooler usually doesn't even drop 1 degree over a 60 minute mash. Unless you really, really want one, you don't need it. Spend the money on something else!

how much to raise mash temp to avoid over attenuation?

Well, interesting! I brewed this exactly a week ago. I pitched at 64 degrees and rose the temp 1 degree a day and ended at 68 degrees. I checked my gravity and I am at 1.008! I mashed at 152-153 also. I think the sugar just may be the issue here.

how much to raise mash temp to avoid over attenuation?

+1 on this! I just brewed this again yesterday and mashed at 152. My SG is 1.068. I did mash for 90 minutes again instaed of 60. My cooler MT holds temps very well and I think it improves my efficiency. I'll post bak when I get my FG and see what the attenuation ends up to be,

how much to raise mash temp to avoid over attenuation?

I brewed this exact same recipe recently but I mashed at 152-153, and I mashed for 90 minutes instead of 60. My SG was 1.070 I finished at 1.015 for about 78-79% attenuation. White labs says to expect 75-80% attenuation. Maybe raise the mash temp? It sounds like everything else you did was...

New-B question - Opening Fermenting bucket

The hardest thing to learn in brewing is patience! Let the yeast do their job.

I'm sorry sir you've had too much...

You did not receive a citation and no DUI. How was the bartender involved then? How did they even know about him? Did you go after him? Something kind of fishy here...

    Monitoring Fermentation temps

A temperature controller, and some insulation over the probe, strapped to the carboy, my temperatures stay within 1 degree of what I set. The probe set this way measures the actual fermentation temperture as RM-MN stated above.

Brand new Sierra Nevada Flipside red IPA

I love Torpedo. I love Celbration. And, I love Flipside! I think they're all great beers. Flipside to me, is more of a west coast style American Amber ale. Hoppy, dry and malty.

This was a very easy setup. The drill is the low speed (variable), 1/2", from Harbor Freight.

Rock Hill / Ft. Mill Homebrewers

I'd like to bump this up again. We've been getting a lot of locals checking out our "77 Beer Brewers" page on Facebook. Come check it out! It looks like there are quite a few people in the area that are homebrewing. Let's keep this going here and maybe we really can get a Homebrew Club...

Yeast Starters & Blow off Tubes

I always use a blow off tube the first few days, just in case. Then I change to an airlock. Once you've had a blow-off, you will not want another one!
