I have been looking for a good brown ale recipe (Newcastle) extract. I found one that I thought was interesting and in the recipe they are calling for 1/2 teaspoon of non-iodized salt? Not sure what the salt is for? does it work like irish moss?
Great message. I am a new brewer and it did take 72 hours before I saw any signs of fermentation and I was worried! But now i have a very active batch and am looking forward to my very first bottle of homebrew.
Made my first batch on Sunday and I am positive that I did the yeast wrong. So I am repitching the yeast and I was told it would be best to do a starter.
I think that I might have pitched when the wort was still to warm. The thermometer had a reading of 76 to 78. I had hydrated the yeast and then pitched it then aerated the wort. I noticed that the temp went up alot. When I reptich the yeast can I just sprinkle it on the wort and then stir it up?
Thank you!! Just brewed my first batch yesterday. Brewers Best American Cream Ale. Not seeing any action and it has been about 17 hours. Considering repitching the yeast. My only concern is that it is Labor Day today and I am not sure if any brew stores will be open today.
