    Hard boil vs gentle rolling boil???

    Some extract kit instructions say to use a "gentle rolling boil" during the boil stage of the brew process.. Just curious, how does employing a "gentle rolling boil" impact the brew versus getting your brew pot up to a more hard or violent boil? Some of my more experienced brewing buds say...

    Darnit!! Think I have my first stalled fermentation... Any thoughts??

    The Malta Goya yeast kick start seemed to do the trick, got it down to 1.020.. Got it in the bottle yesterday. Not sure what to expect.. Going to let it sit for a while.. Thanks a lot for all the feedback.. Learned a lot.. Bought equipment to control temp.

    Crud... Pitching more hydrated yeast didn't do squat... Maybe small move forward (from 1.030 to maybe 1.027) but surely not what I was looking for... I apologize to those who suggested making a starter and pitching at high krausen, I don't have what's needed to do that... Will definitely...

    Hopnog 2012 progress/review..

    Brewed BrewersBest Hopnog 2012 7 days ago, OG was spot on (1.060). Transferred to secondary this morning, FG sitting nicely (1.014). Extract recipe has IBU's at 48-52 for 2.5 gal boil.. Quick taste revealed serious hops, seemingly stronger than what I would associate with IBU's at this level...
