Silicone wrap heater for MT insulation

Do you stir? If not, then that's the way I think I will go.

Silicone wrap heater for MT insulation

Does the hot plate cause hot spots, or make it too warm at the bottom? That's my concern, and why a heater jacket type thing might work. I had some bad luck with a PID and heating element in the MT previously, I think just because a 5 gallon setup is too small for a heating element to be...

Silicone wrap heater for MT insulation

I have used Reflectix. I use it now. I also built a styrofoam base which my MT fits into and reduced headspace by building an insulated insert that caps it off. I still lose a lot of heat though, and have yet to be able to keep it above 150 for the entire mash. I'd post pictures, but I'm at work...

Silicone wrap heater for MT insulation

So I know I saw a post or two about this previously, but I can't find them anymore. I found Watlow (https://www.watlow.com/products/heaters/ht_flex.cfm) silicone wrap heaters and wondered if anyone has tried them as a way to improve temp control in a MT? The idea is you set the wrap for whatever...

    Mash tun question

I tried doing this. Heating the MT using HLT and a recirc tubing setup. It didn't work as well as I had hoped. There were two problems I had First, heat transfer wasn't quite what I had hoped. I don't know where the problem was, but the temp inside the coil (in the middle) was much higher than...

    pure oxygen

Related question. I started a cider more than a month ago, but never got a good bubble going. It's actually working, just very slowly. Apple product was from an orchard, no preservatives, but had been pasteurized. It started at 1.065, and is now down to about 1.045, slowly bubbling away. It's...

    Brewtarget 2.0 Update

The 32bit version works fine, it's the 64bit version that's the problem. And @Mattyp11, there won't be an iDevice or Android version anytime soon. There are some considerable difficulties in doing one, and there really isn't anyone contributing it either. I have some ideas that would make it...

    Brewtarget 2.0 Update

The latest Mac image doesn't work. At this time, to get the latest you need to build from source. Unfortunately, the two of us who build for the Mac are not able to right now. Although Phil may be closer than I am.

    Brewtarget 2.0 Update

Can you describe this better? There is a known issue if you type anything into the large text box in the brewday tab, but I haven't seen, and I bet Mik hasn't either, a 100% repeatable crash from the Extras tab.
