Just bought a 2 gallon fermentation bucket, Pitched the yeast last night. today I went down to the basement to check how things were coming-along, and noticed very weak tremblings from the air lock.
I think I have a bad seal on the bucket. Will this effect the beer inside and is it to late...

I've never considered cold crashing, but after a little research I'm thinking that it sounds like a great idea.
maybe I could bottle the porter, wait 4 weeks for the beer to carbonate, then cold condition for another four weeks? :mug:
Like you I'm doing my first heavy beer a Barley Wine. Well I've read on one of the posts that to up the alcohol content you can re-pitch a white wine yeast when you rack to a secondary.
Call me crazy but I'm really considering going that extra step.
