Funny things you've overheard about beer

    Oxidation in half-finished mead, help.

I didn't say dogs are pests, I said they could be. Just like any pet. I tried some with added honey and black currant juice, it got a little better. But not nearly good enough, and it was hard to find a sweet spot. Could get better or worse with age, I've got no idea where it would head. I've...

    Oxidation in half-finished mead, help.

Thanks for the replies. No sulfites, Wyeast Sweet Mead (not my choice, used it before myself and was not impressed). Started low and was gonna add more, easier on the yeast. Think of it as a full batch sized starter. Not his choice to have cats, it's the my mom's. On a side note: we used to...

    Oxidation in half-finished mead, help.

Background (may skip, not too important but some detail) I'm helping my old man with his mead making, and I finally managed to talk him into making a batch with some awesome honey (he'd previously been using the cheapest one he could find). And as usual, he ignored half my advice and...

Funny things you've overheard about beer

While certainly not in the same price range or as exclusive, I wanted to try Brewdog's Tokyo when it was introduced here in Sweden. While as awesome as the state-owned store is, where you can more or less buy anything, sometimes there are limits. You had to buy six of them, which at the time...

    What are you drinking now?

I generally avoid the domestic craft beers and pseudo craft beers, but I decided to buy Hale to Nothing, brewed by Brutal Brewing (owned by Spendrups). 4.5% ABV, nice colour. Very clean, in fact it's so damn clean you can only taste the hops. Nothing else, which could've been a good thing but...

    What are you drinking now?

Haha, back when I made my first all grain beer I picked my own recipe. To make it a bit more special. It turned out great. But when we treated some guests the beer, they compared my Scottish Export 80 Shilling to a mass-produced "Bayern-style" lager made in Sweden. At that time, I hadn't had...

    What are you drinking now?

Currently sippin' on my first home made Belgian beer. Too drunk to recall the recipe, or even what kind of Belgian. Earlier I had a year old home made IPA, which was rather interesting. Didn't taste anything. You could only feel the bitterness.

Could have been a joke, or a marketing ploy. You know how some ads are annoying so people will remember them.

    German Pils Gruis Pils

I'd say 31 IBU is a bit on the low side for a pilsner.

    Found this.

Found some garden hops by chance today outside a house. Took a picture to compare. Garden hops: Maybe wild hops:

You might be right, it didn't seem to be a climber. Granted, not as easy to tell in the wild without support. I'll keep monitoring the plant.

    Found this.

Is it female hops in the early stage? Found it a few hundred meters away from where I live. Sweden used to have a law that you had to grow hops in proportion to how large your farm was, so there's a tiny chance it's brewers hop and not the abundant garden hops you see in every other garden...
