    The Color of Goldings

So, my hops have been in pots for a few weeks (Cascade, Goldings, Saaz). Getting ready to transplant in a week or two. I planted two rhizomes per pot. I remember that there was a little confusion as to which rhizome was which. But I just planted what I thought were the right ones in the right...

    Star San?

If cloudy water meant it didn't work, wouldn't you think that would be on the label? It appears that a lot of people's water when mixed with Starsan becomes cloudy, and therefore something should be written about it on the label if it doesn't work... I would think. In any case, I'm still...

    Starting hops inside

True - but it's been in the high 40s, low 50s here recently. It's not much warmer in my house! :)

    Starting hops inside

Well, since they've been in the refrigerator, I think they're used to temps in the 30s. So, here in northern Illinois, I've just been leaving them outside on my deck in the pots. When the temp drops below 35 degrees, then I'll bring them inside. I'm pretty sure though that most of the days...

    Starting hops inside

I just planted mine in pots last night. My only concern is that the pot may not be able to contain all the roots once they start growing. My pot has a 12" diameter at the top and is about a foot high. I figure its volume is two gallons. I should be able to transplant at the end of April, so...

    Starting hops inside

I've read that it may be a good idea to start hops inside if you can't plant until later. I'm sure it's better than keeping them in the refrigerator. I am planning on planting more than one rhizome type per mound outside. Should I throw all the rhizomes from one mound in a one gallon pot or...

    repitching

Well, I couldn't take it any longer... I checked the gravity of the beer now, and it's at 1.016! So it had been fermenting. I wonder why I never saw it. I checked the airlock and it's on tight with enough water in it. That's strange. Sneaky fermentation. It must have only fermented at...

    repitching

The same thing has happened to me now.... I just started brewing after a 2 year layoff, and both batches (one on Saturday, one on Sunday) are showing no signs of fermentation. When I get home from work today, it will have been over 72 hours for the first batch, so I'll give it till then and...

Got my rhizomes from Fresh Hops...pic

Mine just arrived, but it's probably another month or more before I can plant them in the ground. Is it better to get them started in pots first, and then transplant or keep them in the fridge moistened until late April? (I live in northeastern Illinois.) Also, if it is best to start them...
