    sparging BIAB

My method is to suspend bag, bring wort to a boil and in the interim give 2 or three squeezes. No sparging. Now with a 10 gal batch the weight of my grain bag is not trivial so maybe that's what makes me lazy in this regard. I suppose I could run off some wort and rinse but my intent post mash...

    BIAB: Low efficiency?

johns, Sorry about this less than scientific attempt to help, this would be so much easier if I could find my spark plug guages but here's some photos. I know they're in the garage somewhere. Maybe behind the snowblower? Wait, I live in Florida WTF is that snowblower doing in my garage? Who's...

    BIAB: Low efficiency?

I ordered a Barley Crusher with the large hopper early in my all grain career. I batch sparged for about a year and have since switched to BIAB doing 10 gal batches and love it. I can't see going back. I also had poor efficiency at the beginning and it was definately related to my crush. I tried...

    Strange Lack of Head Retention

Definately not glassware related, I am serving a Dry Irish Stout on Nitro on Tap #2 that has that just right head and mouthfeel but glassware or changes in sanitization of kegs are good suggestions. This is a very tasty beer, reminds me of some lower carbed cask ales I've had. It's odd yet...

    Strange Lack of Head Retention

Hello, I brewed my 35th batch on my same all grain BIAB system and something really odd is happening with this one. I force carbonated as per usual, 30psi for 18-24 hours, reduce to serving pressure which has always worked before. This english IPA, when served up seems to have a correct head...

    First BIAB

I agree with Seven, with BIAB you don't need rice hulls. Their purpose is to avoid stuck sparges. With BIAB it's not a problem, wheat, pumpkin, leftover halloween candy by the pound? Bring it.

dry hopping in keg vs secondary

I also like to dry hop in the keg with 1.5 ounces of Amarillo in my 1.054-ish Pale Ale or 2-3 ounces of Centennial in my IPA. I don't do secondaries, just rack from primary to corney and dry hop in there for 5 days or so. I boil a hop sock for 10 minutes then add hops either pellet or whole then...

10 gal BIAB in a keggle?

Before every conference session they mentioned that they were going to post the audio from the sessions "in about a month". There were so many good seminars and some of them were running concurrently so I'm stoked to go back and listen to them. I bailed on note taking knowing I could go back and...

10 gal BIAB in a keggle?

Thanks Tony, this site has been such a help to me I really wanted to be able to give something back. I'm glad to be of any help with my first post! I run off into two 5 gal fermenters. I love 10 gallon batches because; 1) It's, like, twice as much beer as a 5 gallon batch (duh) and 2) It...

10 gal BIAB in a keggle?

Tony, I have switched to BIAB and am not looking back. For me simplification without any loss of quality coming out of my kegerator is worth it! I'm using a 20 gal Megapot from Northern Brewer with ball valve and thermometer. I brew on my porch under an overhanging ceiling. I climbed in...
