Recipe suggestions for Mild Ale Malt

Hi all I purchased the wrong grain the other day (Mild Ale Malt) and also have a few leftover specialty malts from the last weekend's brewing, plus various hops in the freezer. I was hoping to put them to use in a beer. (Alternatively I could just soak the grains in fish oil and use them...

    Enhanced Double Decoction Mash Fail

Hi All I brewed KingBrianI's "World's Best Oktoberfest" last weekend after takin a long Hiatus in beermaking (Have been having a go at wine and spirits). It was also my first Enhanced Double Decotion Mash. I though everything went really well, I hit all the right times and temperatures...

Lager using 5kg of the same grain

I think I'll throw in the 15g or Hallertau, then about 15-20g of Northern brewer. After all, they'll end up just adding bitterness from the 60 min boil, not flavour. The hops should have lost some bitterness as they're quite old, so I'll at 35g for bittering in total I think.

Sorry to muddle things up but I just did an inventory on my hop supply. 90g NZ B Saaz (Alpha 8.0) 60g Styrian Golding (Alpha 5.5) 45g UK Golding (Alpha 5.1) 25g Northern Brewer (Alpha 8.0) 25g Cascade (Alpha 5.2) 15g NZ Hallertau (No AA on label but labelled as "Aroma") All hops have...

Lager using 5kg of the same grain

Hi all My LHBS has good deals on 5kg bags of crushed malted grain. Either NZ Pilsner, UK pale ale, or Marris Otter Pale Ale. I also have about 250g of light crystal malt grain left over from my last batch and a freezer full of all sorts of hops - Hallertau, goldings, saaz etc. I'd like...

    DIY Marmite

Has anybody tried making marmite from your yeast after fermentation? I've googled around but I can't find a recipe. I'm sure the home made stuff will taste bad and in the worst case scenario it might even taste as bad as Vegemite, but I still think it will be fun to have a go at it.

    Help no rice hulls!

There is no 6 row available either.... The all grain supplies are in a bit of a sorry state here :( Anyway I have an idea that is either really brilliant or really stupid. Wheat is made up of basically 3 things, the husk, the germ and end endosperm. - The husk is what wheat bran is made...

    Help no rice hulls!

Thanks I'll try those tricks, it's a real SS braid. I called one of the local brewpubs and was told that rice hulls aren't in the country as all the rice we import is already hulled. He suggested to get a long knife and cut some slits on the grain bed if it gets stuck. I'll use that as a last...

    Help no rice hulls!

The recipe is pretty much half wheat, half barly grain with a bit of flakes oats in there. I've left the brew magazine at home so can't tell you the exact amounts. I use a cooler with SS braid. I think it almost stuck when I made a recipe using 20% wheat. When lautering The top of the grain...

    Help no rice hulls!

Hi All I want to make an AG Wit this weekend but Rice hulls don't seem to be available in New Zealand! I've googled all over and have only found other NZ brew forums asking where to get them, but no answers. Is there an alternative I could use? Thanks Muss

    Best age for belgian wit

Hi Paul I thought it was a good yeast for witbeer, I purchased the Wyeast Forbidden Fruit yeast which is supposed to be the Hoegaarden strain and another witbeer, but ruined it because I added way too much corriander, possibly got it infected and to top it off I don't thinik I rinsed the...
