So as with most of my DIY brewing projects I went a little overboard on my chiller. Good thing is I had all the parts but the heater laying around from other projects. Should end up with an 8 gallon reservoir. Got a little more wiring to do and charge the compressor. Thanks to Tom R for the...
Old thread but I am getting ready to build my chiller using a dissembled window unit as seen in the video above. My system will be in my garage in southern Indiana so the in the winter the temp in the garage gets to 45 on the cold days. My plan is to use a nice sized submersible aquarium heater...
The Colorado Brewing elbow fits pretty good but... Of coarse everything thing is better with a few mods...
Milling the elbow so it sits nicely in the kettle...
Next on to adding a trub damn
While I was at it I cut down the extra long thremowell
Just got my Colorado Brewing whirlpool elbow with plans to use it as my pickup. Fits nice and tight to the wall and is bigger diameter then other pickups I have looked at. Looks like it is going to work great!!
If I understand, the bend is too long and it won't point straight down. If that is the case I would think that I could cut the end to get the perfect fit.
That would be great. I am looking to use it as a pickup tube on a 15 gallon kettle. It looks like it would work perfectly. I want to huge the kettle wall and sit 1/8" or so off the bottom.
ndinh, did Tim give you what the dimensions are on his standard whirlpool arm?? I was looking to see what the measurement is from the face of the TC to the inside of the elbow. I am looking to get the tube as close to the wall of the kettle as possible.
I was under the impression that the Wyeast 1007 German ale yeast was low floculating. I rinsed the yeast and it is settling out like an English yeast. I am assuming that I want to pull milky part of the yeast.
Does this look right? This is after about 15 min of sitting.
Just brewed a Bock on Saturday using a second pitch of 2007. OG was 17p and hoping for a FG of around 4.5 - 5. Took about 24 hours to get kicking and after 48 hours it was really churning. Temp set @ 48 deg now and plan to let it free rise to 51 after a week.
How did yours turn out??
The 2" inside the kettle was calculating from the Tri-clamp flange as well as the ferrel length welded to my kettle. I have had very good luck making pickup tubes in the past just using my pipe cutter I use on copper pipe. Takes a little longer but makes a very clean cut.
Measuring to scale (a little tough to be exact with a pic on the web) it looks like the Brewers hardwear pickup will sit at around 2" from the inside wall of the kettle. It also looks like it might be a bit long and need a small amount cut off the bottom. I think it will be perfect. I can cut...
Specs on the cobrewingsystems pickup sent from Tim...
From the tri-clamp connection to the start of the 90 degree tube is 3 3/4" (4 1/4" to center of tube). From the bottom of the tube to center of the horizontal tube is 2". Its designed to be 4" overall length into a kettle when connected to...
Just got my 15 gallon. Waiting on BrewGear to get an ETA on their pickup tube. If not soon, I'm ordering the pickup from Brewers Hardware. Theirs looks really close to being right. I want it as close to the kettle wall as possible.
