    Us 05

I use S-04 for my irish red. I get a flavor profile out of it that matches the style better in my opinion. It ferments a lot more like the other yeast you referred to though. Starts strong and can blow the lid off if not properly cooled at pitch, and takes a while to finish, but drops out...

    RIS: Stuck or Done?

First off, big beers take a lot longer to finish so never rush. Second, S-04 and S-05 have a pretty low alcohol tolerance and can die out with fermentables still there As I said up above, I recommend adding a pack of 1118/champagne yeast that has a tolerance upwards of 20% to get the beer to...

    RIS: Stuck or Done?

Had one stuck for months in that range. Added champagne yeast and forgot about it for a year. Finished in the mid 20s. The flavor profile was definitely S-05, nothing yeast related from the champagne.

    Improvised Glycol line chiller?

Unless pushing with beer gas, you run the risk of overcarbing to get a decent flow at the taps or taking 5 minutes to fill a pint glass... What would your saline/glycol lines be made of? What diameter? Would worry about getting a pump that could handle that length run for a sustained period...

    Portable 4 tap set up

I needed to be very portable. Biggest concern I've had, and you're likely to run into, is the bucket with ice sweating a crapload all over your floor. Be aware of where the water will run in the room you have it in. I've soaked a few carpets :ban:

    Portable 4 tap set up

But that's not real portable... :cross: Apologies for the cheap shot. Nice build though. Love the builds where you spend very little, just using stuff you find laying around the garage...

Brew shed plans - looking for suggestions

I'm looking at using 2x6 for my walls and a combination of panels and fiberglass bats to get to R-20 at a minimum. The door is the challenge. The build by irenzrt or whatever his username is in Arizona is a bit overkill, but done properly. Just way expensive. Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

Brew shed plans - looking for suggestions

What thickness walls and what R-value are you going for with the walk-in? I'm almost done with plans for mine but am waiting for this winter to end before breaking ground. 6 more inches of snow expected Monday...

Brew shed plans - looking for suggestions

I would consider finding a used hood for ventilation over an open window/wall, mainly due to night-time bug issues (I know, California is desert and doesn't have the same amount of bugs like we do out here on the right coast, but still...). Another idea that I'm kicking around right now is the...

    Bayou SQ-14 frame weight limit

Thanks Dougan. My 20-gallon pot filled to 18.5 doesn't give me much of a wiggle, but I'm concerned about the extra weight and the longevity of it. I guess I'll likely switch to 3 banjos and a custom built frame system. Might look into the weldless options I've seen around here a lot.

    Bayou SQ-14 frame weight limit

Does anyone know the weight limit on the Bayou SQ-14? Hoping it can hold a nearly full 50-gallon stainless pot...

    Keezer Help

Sounds like it's low on coolant (freon?). Could be a handful of other problems as well, but from my experience, it's not looking good. Go back to daily browsing of Craig's List for another unit...

Show us your portable travel kegerator/cooler.

Finally finished this one enough to post it. Made mostly from stuff I had laying around the garage. Will utilize garbage bags for condensation in the box with the kegs and have had great results with just dropping a bag of ice down between all 4 kegs to keep them at a good...

Extra Hard Lemonade- bottled, but have a BAAAD sulfur smell!!!!!!!!!

I had a bad sulphur smell in a cider that I tried to age out for 6 months. No dice. Pretty sure the sulphur smell comes from the yeast running out of oxygen during primary fermentation or an over-abundance of CO2. I was told that if you smell it coming out the airlock during active...
