    Is My Aeration Technique Okay?

Sounds Aerated enough, I used a whisk in a high gravity brew about 1.085 og, that was enough oxygen for a complete fermentation using us05 yeast, Id imagine a powertool is more effecient than I.

Imperial Stout Respect Imperial Stout (Extract)

Did You get a sticky dark mess all over the place? If not, aerate a little better next time, then let it flow all over the clothes in the closet, then demand better equipment.

    Saison Simple Saison (small batch)

Nice looking beer. This is similar to an extract brew I recently whipped up in order to try the Belle Saison yeast for the 1st time, its excellent yeast. Thanks for sharing.

    ghetto brew setups?...

How do you like that SS brewtech Fermenter? I checked em out. They look like a great value, Not sure if it was worth cutting corners on cost or not. They look nice though.

    Flat imperial stout

Do you see a good amount of yeast settling to the bottom of the bottles? I recently bottled... well 2 wks ago. Weak carb so far, not seeing a lot of yeast settling. Thinking I shoulda used some yeast for priming. Never had that problem before. My OG was 1.075 & FG was 1.018 when bottled.

    Bad Pack Of Dry Yeast?

Well, like i tried to iterate before but people continuously deny, when i opened the yeast it was foul. Once someone can just explain that i can go into the temps. I made a brew 2 weeks before these one and 2 weeks after. So far, this smell has not been present at anytime other than when i...

    Bad Pack Of Dry Yeast?

In case anyone cares, The beer carb'ed quickly and sufficiently. Whatever smell the yeast had when I first opened, has stuck around. Perhaps not as strong of aroma due to the other ingredients melding. But, its sour, and not in a good way. This flavor is not a flavor most have ever encountered...

carbonation issues - priming sugar problem + second try

Im quite a novice so take my advice with a bag of salt. Sounds like your only option involves oven mitts to protect from shards of glass. But, throwing them in a fridge should slow the carbing, and I've heard of people pasteurizing ciders to kill the yeast while bottled once its carbonated, not...

    Yeast OR Bacteria?

Not exactly what i was expecting, that particular batch of yeast may have had something wrong.... very pungent. But with age, its smelling better, and doesnt send my taste buds into shock anymore.

Yeast rafts, new term thanks. Glad they have a name. Did i bottle too soon?

    Yeast OR Bacteria?

Hello, here is yet another perhaps, overly concerned newb question. I had a pack of Coopers Ale yeast (little gold pack) that I had pitched into a stout extract brew. When I opened the yeast it gave off a strong smell... But I put it in as I noticed the smell, so I ran with it. After 1 week...

    Bad Pack Of Dry Yeast?

Thanks for the tip on the temp control. I do understand it is extremely important when making a brew correctly. I will not make another batch until that is handled. In regards to the off smelling yeast... Does anyone have any input on that? Has anyone ever opened a packet of dry yeast and got a...

    Bad Pack Of Dry Yeast?

The wort was too warm, roughly mid 80's, fermentation... too high as well.. 76...more like 78... I live in Texas and try to keep the AC in low 70's, my apartment isn't exactly the most ideal for most styles.

    Bad Pack Of Dry Yeast?

Ok, that was way too much. Rewording. Has anyone ever opened a packet of dry yeast that gave off a very strong odor? Almost, bad? I threw it in the fermenter simultaneously as I opened the pack, which I would not have done with a chance to think. It has been fermenting for a week, but that odor...
