    Bottle Priming

Thanks for the insight Revvy. I guess I kind of assumed that most breweries (other than the mega major ones like Miller and Bud) followed the same procedures as us home brewers do. And devilishprune, I know that it's impossible to give an exact answer but about what percentage do you think...

    Bottle Priming

Hey everyone, I know about the importance of the pour when it comes to home brew that was bottle conditioned. I've always left that last 1/4" to 1/2" in the bottom of the bottle to avoid pouring the yeast int the glass. But recently a friend of mine drank a beer right out of the bottle. I...

    Half full bottle...

Thanks for the help, I took your guys' advice and picked this particular bottle to "test" at one week of priming (test is my way of justifying to my wife why I'm drinking beer at 10 in the morning). It carbonated perfectly but has a very SLIGHT yeasty aftertaste. I was extremely careful not to...

    Half full bottle...

I bottled my first successful batch of home brew about a week ago but had one bottle that only ended up half full. Seeing as I could afford the bottle cap that it would take to cap it I figured why not, maybe it will properly prime. But the longer I wait the more curious I get so I have to...

    Yeast: fermentation and bottling...

Wow...sounds like you guys are right, did a little more reading on CPBF's and sounds do-able but like a bit more work than I am willing to put into my beer until I am a bit more experienced. I have no problem with being a careful pourer. And seeing as I have yet to come up with one successful...

    Yeast: fermentation and bottling...

Thanks guys, good knowledge to have. I see what you're saying about closing the valves on the fermenter JohnMc, makes sense and seems easy with the super controlled conditions they work with (and knowledge/experience). So if I am understanding correctly... To avoid the yeast sediment in the...

    Yeast: fermentation and bottling...

To start I looked through the threads already out there and couldn't find this info, I have also done much reading and have had no luck. If there is a thread or some info already out there feel free to redirect me... Anyways, I have two very specific yeast questions I would love to have...

    I made a horrible mistake...

I did add hops, 1 oz. of wilamette. Next time I will probably use a little more though. After reading some of these replies I have decided to start from scratch. Thanks to everyone who replied. But now here is another question...is it 1 pound of malt extract per gallon of water total (so a 5...

    I made a horrible mistake...

Yes, Malt Extract. I used Munton's Plain Dark spraymalt extract. Have read good things about it, if this batch is a lost cause I'll probably still use it, just more of it.

    I made a horrible mistake...

I have started to make my first batch of home made beer and in the excitement of it all I made one horrible mistake...I didn't add enough malt. I went to a local brewing supply store and all they sold were 1 pound bags and assumed (I know what happens when you assume...) that a 5 gallon batch...
