You could try checking around at local grocery stores. You'd be surprised at the variety of products that the distributors carry that the local stores don't purchase regularly. If you're a regular customer it's quite possible that management will be willing to order a bag in for you (assuming...
Thanks for the suggestions everybody! I appreciate the help. It seems NYC runs about $8/pint which isn't too bad. The brewpub by my apartment only charges $4 but most places in KC charge between $5-$7 on average.
Tante- You're probably right about McSorley's. Their two beers are easily...
Hi all,
I will be visiting New York City in a few months and was wondering which of the breweries/brewpubs I should try to hit up. If possible I'd like to know a price point. I'm from KC so I'm used to paying around $4 at the local brewpub. I'm fine with ponying up a bit more; I'd just...
I think I'll just stick with distilled or RO water and add whatever minerals I need to get the water profile that I want. I was hoping that wouldn't be the conclusion but it could be worse.
darksin: You definitely want to do something about the chloramine. I'd suggest adding 1/2 of a...
According to the water report that I linked to above, KCK also uses the Missouri River as its water source and it claims to have interconnections with KCMO and WaterOne. Maybe the treatment plant just adds a lot to the water before it hits the pipelines?
It looks like I might need to bring empty jugs to some random houses in OP at 2:30 AM and fill up from the outside spout. Maybe I can sneak over to Boulevard; they're only about 1.5 miles from my apartment. Surely they have water that is brewing quality.
Hello All!
I've been extract brewing for about 2.5 years and am looking to make the jump to AG. I'm planning on using the BIAB method and since I live in a small apartment I will be forced to brew 2.5 gal batches or dilute my wort down with additional water to make 5 gal. (yes, I understand...
Boulevard, while their year round beers do significantly lack character, does offer some great beers in their Smokestack series. Harvest Dance is hitting shelves today as is their winter seasonal Nutcracker Ale. I'd definitely give those a shot if you get on a tour. McCoy's, arguably the best...
I used it for an apricot wheat a few years back. The beer turned out great. I say go for it if you've got a packet hanging around. A wheat yeast strain will give you better results, but coopers will get the job done.
KC does have a good homebrew scene as well as a steadily growing craft beer scene. We're not up to STL standards yet but we're progressing nonetheless.
I've never been to the Lhbs up north but between Homebrew Pro Shoppe and Bacchus and Barleycorn I will vote for Bacchus all day long. Steep...
