First time feementing with lager yeast

Yeah, starsan in the airlock. I disassembled, cleaned, sanitized and reassembled everything, just to be safe.

First time feementing with lager yeast

Hey everyone. Kind of an odd question, but figure it never hurts to ask. I've brewed a number of ales, and this is the first time I've tried brewing a lager. I've noticed a brown haze collecting in the airlock. The krauzen hasn't even reached the top of the fermenter, so I know it isn't residue...

    First Bottle Infection

Not standing all the bottles upright should help. Also, I'll only mention it because you didn't, but make sure the bottle tree is sanitized as well. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

WLP051 is sooooo... sloooow... (and fruity!)

So I'm about a week into fermentation. The sharp "off" odor seems to be gone and has been replaced with something more pleasantly beery. I did do a lot more research into this particular yeast as well as other possible sources of the sharp odor I was getting. I am starting to think that I was...

WLP051 is sooooo... sloooow... (and fruity!)

Well I had my wife take a whiff of the inside of the fermentation chamber. She didn't smell sulfur, so I'm assuming that whatever it is I'm smelling is normal for the yeast. To me, the scent has a sharpness to it and it doesn't smell "yeasty" at all, as was more common with my previous batches...

WLP051 is sooooo... sloooow... (and fruity!)

Do you find it generates what I could only term as "off" scents during fermentation? I don't know that I'm smelling sulfur, but it seems somewhat familiar in some way... Is there an optimal temperature you've found the yeast performs best at? I chilled the wort to just under 70° and the...

WLP051 is sooooo... sloooow... (and fruity!)

I know this is a few months old now, but I just pitched WLP051 into a citra pale ale extract kit from More Beer on Saturday night. This is only my 4th batch and the first in a chest freezer converted to a fermentation chamber. At any rate, the stench when I opened the lid is definitely not what...

Can anyone translate German beer stein?

I didn't think the esset (B) was used at the beginning of a word. However, as mentioned, it's been many, many years since I've spoken or written German, so I could be wrong on that. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Can anyone translate German beer stein?

I could be wrong, but it looks like the stein says: "Sind dirtrocken Hals und Bung / Kehr hier ein zu kuhlem Trunk". That "u" in "kuhlem" should actually have an umlaut over it, but I can't type that on my phone. My German has gone to pot, but I believe it translates to something about a dry...
