    Yeast not being yeast like

So, Friday I took a gravity sample, and it was down to 1.020. Clearly working. I took a drink of the sample afterwards, and it tasted pretty terrible. Like watered down Evan Williams whiskey. Whatever, not much I can do. So, I poured the maple syrup into each carboy, like I was supposed to...

    Yeast not being yeast like

I've never had it work like this. I just looks like a container full of sugary brown liquid. I mean zero action. I'll pull a sample tonight. Yeast supposedly out for delivery today. I won't do anything until I take a sample. I just usually have high krausen with in 24-36 hours. This just...

    Yeast not being yeast like

I've been hesitant to open the tops and check the gravity, for fear of letting oxygen in. You guys think I should do that first? I had planned on checking it when the dry yeast showed up and I pitched that.

    Yeast not being yeast like

I brewed this up on Sunday: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=496504 I did 10 gallons, so I just doubled everything, including the starter size. Typically I do 2L starter for every 5 gallons or wort, so this was a little short on my normal procedure. I made a 2L starter in...

Logistics of saving dregs from bottle share to build culture

Glad I stumbled upon this post today. I love this idea. I've got a healthy stash of RR at home. Be excellent bottles to start with. This list is the first one I thought of when seeking out bottles for this idea: http://www.themadfermentationist.com/p/dreg-list.html This list is extensive...

Who knows about King Kooker Brew Stand?

That seems like a pretty reasonable price, Texas, for what you are getting there from Northern Brewer. I'll keep that in mind as well. I pulled the trigger on the King Kooker. Amazon Prime. Should arrive on Friday. Sweet! Again, thanks for the input, everyone.

Who knows about King Kooker Brew Stand?

On another note, Texas, is that a sparge arm on that front kettle? You make that or buy it? That's also on my list. Making some upgrades in the next few months....

Who knows about King Kooker Brew Stand?

lol. Thanks, guys. I think I might just pull the trigger. I've stared at it in my Amazon cart long enough I think.

Who knows about King Kooker Brew Stand?

Thanks, Texas. That's what I was thinking. I'd think you could get into it and change out that bottom burner for a better one, couldn't you?

Who knows about King Kooker Brew Stand?

I see a couple years ago there was a little chatter about these things: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00264G584/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 Anyone have anything to report about them? Goods? Bads? The price is obviously hard to beat. As long as it doesn't collapse mid boil, it seems like...

    King Kooker Dual Burner Cart...thoughts?

I'm thinking about one of these for my keggle set up. Seems like they can handle the weight of the keggle, while doing 10 gal batches? Everyone still liking theirs? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, guys.

    Good brewpubs/tasting rooms in Denver?

And if you are downtown, stop in a Euclid Hall. Great food, and lots of interesting beers to choose from. Killer place. We ended almost every night of our trip there.

    Good brewpubs/tasting rooms in Denver?

River North is fun. Slightly off the beaten path, but full of locals. We had a great time there, and a local even gave us a ride to our next brewery stop! Can't complain about that. We should have made it to Crooked Stave. Not smart on my part. Errrr....

Show us your sculpture or brew rig

I'm just using the picture, as it's the first one I saw that illustrates my question. When the temp gauges are that high up, and you heat you mash water, isn't the water level below the probe? Mine is lower than this, and if I have a volume of water under about 4.5gal, it doesn't quite get up...
