Texas Hundreds of free bottles near Austin, TX

I'm moving out of state and not taking all of my bottles with me. If you want to come get them they're yours. I am in Manor, just east of Austin, TX on 290. Haven't put them all together to count but 5-10 cases of bottles some clean, some not; some with labels, some without; mostly brown...

I used two yeasts, what's going to happen?

First of all, I know, RDWHAHB. I intend to drink the result, and I think it will still be quite good, I just am curious what people think will happen. I made a quick batch of EdWort's Apfelwein. I haven't brewed since my son was born 6 months ago, so I want to get something quick and easy...

    Mashing tobacco leaves?

Revvy is actually a computerized database of brewing knowledge.

    Sanitize Bottled Spring Water?

I think you kind of hear both because of the better safe than sorry and beer is robust camps. Both are fine, it's a personality thing I think. Could you get an infection from your top off water if you don't sanitize? Probably. Is it common? No. There are lots of people who do it either of...

    Gelatin and bottling?

I have a sort of gut feeling that my beers in which I have used gelatin take slightly longer to carb up, but not much. I have no empirical proof of that.

What caused the vacuum in my carboy?

In a lab setting the lab is positively pressurized because the room may/will leak. No chill brewers are assuming that the container will remain airtight. The wort goes while still boiling thus sanitizing the container and hopefully any air in the headspace (no chill brewers typically try to...

    Blueberry mead.

I would love to see your recipe for the first batch. Blueberry mead sounds great and I think your recipe could make a good starting point.

    Gelatin and bottling?

One packet of unflavored gelatin dissolved in a cup or cup and a half of water is plenty, there are a few tutorials floating around the forums.

    Beer only bars?

Here in Tejas it is harder to get a license to sell liquor and there are more strict requirements on hours, bar staff, etc, so it can be fairly common. I hadn't thought of it as being that uncommon. Two of my favorite pubs in Austin, The Draught House and The Dog and Duck sell craft beers and...

    Gelatin and bottling?

The gelatin is in suspension, it's not like dropping chunks of Jell-o into the secondary. The water flows into the beer carrying the suspended gelatin with it, it diffused into the beer and the gelatin drops out of suspension as it picks up the particulate solids in suspension in the beer. Try...

    Gelatin and bottling?

It does indeed strip out plenty of yeast, but it leaves enough to multiply and carb up your bottles. Short of filtering it is hard to take all the yeast out of suspension. What it does do is generally leave you with a much better cake at the bottom of the fermenter that is harder to...

    Shiner Bock

Once I was at an Applebees with no good beers on tap (big surprise), and they had a special on domestics. Looking over the range of BMC offerings I deduced that Michelob Amber Bock was probably my best option, so I ordered it. The waitress left. She came back: "Amber Bock isn't on special...

    Tubing

I run hot water and oxyclean through followed by starsan, then hang to dry. Clean promptly don't give the tubing time to get sticky with wort remnants. AHS also sells tubing brushes, 3' or so long brushes ordered by tubing diameter.

    Pipe smokers?

I have a "Pipes By Lorenzo" that I love. I got it for $45. It is a churchwarden (very long stem), but is bent twice so that the bowl sits down below my jaw. My starter pipe was a $25 semi churchwarden. Those long stems give nice cool smoke. While I have tried other pipes, I keep coming back...

How did you get hooked on brewing?

I accidentally made a hard cider in the fridge. I had this bottle of unpasteurized organic cider and I tasted it but it was a bit too sour. I threw some sugar in it and stuck it in the fridge. Something got put in front of it and I found it 3 months later all puffed up from the CO2, delicious...
