    RIMS rocket dark wort

I am using a regular sparge arm like so https://home-brew-stuff.myshopify.com/products/ssa-01?_pos=3&_sid=e862de501&_ss=r I'll try lowering it when recirculating and see if that does anything different. I have a feeling this wheat malt is way darker than it should be as well, both beers I...

    RIMS rocket dark wort

Monitoring it, over the course of an hour it went from looking like straw yellow of a lager to a golden-copper color typical of an east coast IPA coming out of the sparge arm. It's a low-watt-density, RIMS rocket. https://www.blichmannengineering.com/rimsrocket.html Should be 5 SRM...

    RIMS rocket dark wort

I have a RIMS rocket and the blichmann power tower PID with it and I've used it a few times. I don't believe I'm getting scorching, the pump is moving at a good pace, the element isn't blackened when I take it apart, but I see the wort visibly darken. Last batch was pale ale, wheat, and a half...

    Homebrew Clarity

You can use it in beer. It's Chitosan and Kieselsol. https://www.northernbrewer.com/products/lq-chitosan https://www.morebeer.com/products/super-kleer-finings-kieselsolchitosan-65-ml.html Normally used in wine, mead and liquor, they probably don't use it in beer as it's more expensive...

    Chunky Beer, Why???

A long time ago I brewed a cherry wheat that had that effect in some of the bottles. Basically the fruit that remained in suspension and the yeast from bottle conditioning formed a layer at the bottom, but a rough layer instead of a smooth one, as soon as pressure was release, the chunks broke...

Examining possible solutions to issue of sulfur smell from Perlick 650ss faucets

I do not have a sulfur problem, both my faucets are A0215G, been in service since November '15, sometimes the beer sits for 3 weeks and no issues (I had bronchitis). I did clean with PBW and then run Acid Blend #6 in a 2oz/Gallon ratio when I installed them.

Need help with RIMS controller setup

thanks for the help everyone, I appreciate it. And 10-4 about the amperage, I've already run into that, most of the controllers are 1200w/15amp and I have to use the ssr because of it.

Need help with RIMS controller setup

That's exactly what I need, but it's missing the temp probe and the plumbing questions. I'm not sure what the alarm disable and buzzer is for, or how the emergency stop works (is it connecting the hot right to ground? Sounds expensive, why not just break the circuit and not send power to the...

Need help with RIMS controller setup

I have a Blichmann 120v RIMS rocket, 10 gallon mash tun with/false bottom, a bunch of camlocks and silicon tubing, and a chugger pump. I want to do step mashing, any recommended setups? Here's what I think I need: A controller, e.g. Auber SYL-2352 Some sort of SSR as the RIMS is 2000w...

A Year In Review - Lessons Learned

@Iseneye Spraying grain with water keeps more of the husk intact when milling. Be cautioned this can gum up your mill, I don't bother and I'm often over 80%, I'd worry more about getting a good crush and sparging well.

    The great fermentation debate!! Lol

I've kegged in as little as 8 days, if it's done, it's done. I've also let sit for a few months for some Belgians and RISs. Some of the more hoppy, roasty or high gravity beers benefit from a little aging, but they can do that in the keg.

Help figuring out PBG from first runnings

I've been having super low FGs too lately, I think I take too long to sparge trying to get the wort clear through vorlaufing and that also cools the wort to let the Beta Amylase go nuts. I've been trying a combo of super hot mash out and boiling the first runnings while sparging on certain...
